is it common to get no blood with a muzzleloader? I hit a deer today around 4:30 and crumpled her up like a piece of paper. she hit the ground in her tracks.....jumped up and ran off and dropped again......she got up and ran again, at which point i backed out and gave her about a half hour. so anyways went to track her and no blood at all.......but i know i nailed her dead behind the shoulder.....i could see the hole when she dropped......is this normal? as of now no deer gonna go back in the am. oh yeah shooting T/C shockwave 250 gr with 100 gr of powder......15 yard shot.:huh::huh:

with that much damage maybe you should have pushed her or maybe the other hunter in camo watched her drope in the back of his truck:p.my son in law did the same thing but he followed her for about a half hour had to put a second one in her the first missed the bone and cut the top of the lung and bleed inside just a little on the fur till he hit her heart on the second the first looked like a fist on the exite some times they just don't go wright down

You might of hit her alittle her high and it takes awhile for the blood to start.I have gone a 100 yards on animals hit that way before picking up blood .Shes there some where.Hope you find her.

Sounds like a high lung hit, probably internal for most bleeding. No it is not normal to have no blood, but it is normal to find it hard to see blood from the deer breathing out small drops instead of puddles like a bow shot. Also you might have caught the opposite shoulder and might not have an exit wound. This will really limit blood trail, time to do some hands and knee work. Good idea that you didn't push her too much, hope all ends well, good luck.

well spent 4 hours looking today, found great blood and several spots where it layed down, but no deer. blood is full of bubbles, so def a lung shot. searched the entire piece of woods, but cant seem to find her. the trail just went cold, and couldnt find her anywhere. i believe she is in the only spot that is left, but it is unaccessible. there is a section of swamp that you just cant go in. it s waist deep slime, so i guess im gonna have to chalk it up as a loss.:(:thdown:

if you shot it from the ground it takes time for the cavity to fill with blood. Could be the reason you didn't find blood right away, also if you are not using the hollow points (which give a great exit wound) you may have punched a very small entry & exit hole which would also explain the lack of blood. All the aero bullets will do it if they dont hit any thing hard. Better luck next time.

I dont believe in chest shots with firearms, bow yes, but not firearms, never did or will, tracked too many other peoples deer for them, seen too many times run to another hunter to get shot or plain lost.
Firearms I shoot them center of the shoulder, try to line them up both shoulders.
As for no blood, I second that on the hollow points, seen too many shot with muzzleloaders this time of year without a hollowpoint, especially with a roundball, where the fat clogs the hole up on a less expansive bullet. We had over a 3/8 inch of fat in the brisket of the 3 doe we butchered back in gun season.
If your hunting small patches of woods and left her overnight and lost the track, I would try circling the outside of the woodlot if you can looking for blood on the side of weeds on the trails exiting the lot, she may very well have moved to another lot overnight if there is another nearby I would try that, even if you find her dead now and meat no good, you can learn a lot by finding it.
