my father in law bought me a wildgame innovations IR4 camera for christmas. seemed to be a good camera, byt the list of features. 4.0 megapixel, IR, and all. but it didnt work.....at all......it just eats batteries in a few hours...turns out it is a common problem with them. anyways took it back to Dicks, and they dont have them anymore. they have a few to choose from.....does anyone have any suggestions for a decent trail camera in the 100-200 dollar range? I know a ton of u guys have them, and Im just starting out with one.....so any suggestions on an entry level camera??
thanks

get the money back and buy a cuddeback capture. we got ours for about 150. takes great pics, i mean almost perfect pictures and is very simple to set up. ya just turn it off, take out the mem card, turn it back on and twist the little thing to the delay length you want. very straight forward.

i owned 2 stealth cams and both broke within 1 yr. The flash went in one of them...and the other one would not hold any of its programmed times.

which camera would be a better purchase? the cuddeback or the moultrie? also is the IR that big of deal? are deer really sppoked that bad by a flash? or is IR just the newest thing out there, so everyone wants it? like i said Im a trail cam newbie, and if im gonna replace the defective one i want to get the best i can afford

I have a few wildview extreme 2 cameras that i leave out all year. had them for 2 years now. the batteries (4 c) last about a month +-. pics are good quality, no complaints. heres a few bonus pics from this last month.
have a few more, but keep getting a connection prob diagnosis. that should be enough to gat an idea of the camera. price for them is 2 for $99.00 at cabelas.
good luck with your choice.

I personally have seen deer jump back when the standard white flash goes off. I worry about spooking mature deer with them. I also bought the twin pack of the wildview 2.0 and have put a red see thru saran wrap over the flash to mellow that bright white flash a little bit. It seems to be working. If you can afford it, i would buy one with an IR flash.
I am curious of others out there if they feel the flash is scaring them at all?

I have about 5000 pics of deer on the wildviews, i set the cams to take either 3 or 6 shots in a row. i have many many 3 and 6 shot strings of deer with the flash going off as many times and never scaring them.
Heres a buck that was right in the camera, and stayed there for 3 flashes. I don't bait at the cameras either. The only thing i did just notice is that the delay with the flash is about 7 seconds. i guess it has to charge in between.

In my opinion the flash does spoke them, I have a moultrie flash a 4.0 moultrie IR and 2 wildgame IR's.
Mhy moultrie flash I very very seldom get a buck on there more the once, with the IR's I get the same bucks coming back all the time and will stay in front for a long period. I mainly use on bait piles. Earlier this year (Nov) I had a pile in a private farm on a hedgerow... had 2 piles 20 yards apart.. one with flash camera and other with no camera.. pile with no camera was gone in 4 days.. pile with flash camera had only 20 pics and the pile was almost fully left after a week!!
You said your Wildgame IR 4.0 doesn't work.. I'm happy with my 2.. usually get a month out of batteries and around 2400-3600 pics... for the price I think they are ok... do get some white out pitcures ocasionally though:(IMPORTANT .... I HAVE FOUND WITH ALL MY CAMERA'S THAT ONLY DURACELL OR ENERGIZER BATTERIES LAST!!!!!!!

hey chazoz do you lock it? there a cheap method to lock this model.
buy a bread pan that fits it(think size is 5x7x2) use camo tape to camo it and drill holes in side then use a python cable, Dicks sell the cables for around $18-> cable slides thru lock and you pull tight. There is no lock to cut and cable is cut resistant.
