Too tired after workin all night to post pics or the full story...but I got one:D
Last snare in line in a grass saddle leading down to a sheep pasture.
Set four coyote snares there between yesterday and the day before. One connected. He's a big male. Pushing 45 or 50. Hell of a hump out...but with fur over the shoulder it was too cool. Leasee there jumped through hoops for authorization to get me over there and they wanted yote, and it felt great to deliver for them.

Here we go again.......
Anyway,!
The Mrs wanted to bag dinner due to the wind and cold...
So, Here it is. I set the property just three days ago. The snow had melted and it was a mud bog. They're losing some poultry and It looked like mostly reds on the chickens. But their main concern was the yotes they've had some problems with. Their sheep wil be lambing later this winter and their biggest concern came from seeing the yote tracks near the sheep. Unfortunately I got there a day late to see the sign in the snow.
I set a few for reds around the birds on some trails and a couple on unders. The first night even in the rain I connected on a red. Actually wouldnt have been surprised to see more there. On the other property I missed one. Another failed cable stop. Had enough with the aluminum stops. Went to Steel stops, especially on the 1x19 coyote snares.
Probly in the nick of time judging by the strength I witnessed today.
On the second day I hung two yote snares and yesterday I hung two more. Two in a deep gorge on one side of the place and two leading down that grassy saddle toward the sheep about a quarter mile away.
This morning I got off and checked the place closer to work and got a female red out of the 7 snares there. On to the other place and the last snare checked, I got close and saw the support was tilted over. Not surprising with the deer knock downs i'm gonna get there. I needed to drive in a stake for a support because of the location of the run and where I wanted to set, but I had concealed the stake pretty well. Suddenly I saw the big dog bolt from some tall grass. He was on two linked extensions due to lack of an anchor nearby. He had pulled so hard he had actually tightened the extension around the anchor so tight it had bitten about a quarter inch into the tree trunk. Steel stops held...thak lord.
The run that connected was a grass run along the side of some real thick stuff that had no runs for about a twenty yard stretch. That run had a 'y' feed just prior to the set that I closed in just a bit on the one side with some tall grass. Not really fencing it, but making it less clear than the section I set. I had a second snare on the nearest run on the opposite side of that thick stuff and used a loud call up high about midway between snares hoping that as a dog hopefullly came near he would lose scent and circle that hell catching on one of the two snares.
SO that's it. One happy farmer. One goal reached. Now I need that damn mink and I can call it a trapping career;)

very happy for you. your on fire.
it's cool walking up on those big k9's. big difference from a fox or coon.
any chewing on the snare or extention? or did it fixate on the blowdown?
almost scary walking into a 24' catch circle and dealing with a big k9 with devil eyes.
great job.
and a few of these.

He chewed the 1x19 pretty hard UB. He mauled the swivel, but kinda shared his unhappiness with a bit of everything around if you know what I mean. Didn t notice any real fixation on any one thing.
Catchin somethin that big is neat, i gotta admit, but I still love those fox.

Yeah they bite on everything when they're anchored down. I've had them bend the dog on the trap.
How did ya like those deep yellow eyes when your up close!

24 inch would have been nice, but wasnt happening on that run without a ground stake I guess!! He didnt tear it up (the run) too much actually. In fact I reset it today about ten yards from where I snared him. That saddle is a main travel point for a vast area. They're definitely using it. I suspect they'll be spooked from there somwhat but I think there's more than 1 group using that point. Had a ride along today and he got to see the spot and caught 2 reds for him too!
Redneck..Next week is good, later in the week. Wed, Thurs, or Fri. I'll be draggin my a$$ Wed after working all night Tuesday, so Thurs or Fri would be better. And pray for some of the snowy stuff!!
Topped off a quart of red glands yesterday for you too redneck.

did you bait any of those snares?

No baiting...all canines have been on blind sets set on travel routes or on runs inside/around feeding areas. Some had a call placed only high up in the vicinity...nothing low unless it was around coon cages.
