Do you have your cameras on bait piles? Maybe you should set your cameras up elsewhere on different runs, deer trails, scapes, rubs, etc. The bucks are either bedded down or going into areas where you aren't.

theyre on both bait and scrapes. i look for the scrapes and heavy runs then bait a little bit just to get multiple pics of whatever comes through so i can tell what it is.

Put your cam on a different trail the one least traveled odds are he ain't hangin with a herd now.

Dropping bait on a heavy run might be messing things up a bit. If the run is there your camera will catch whatever trevels them without the bait. The bucks might see your bait, especially a new pile on an established run, as a sign of danger. Just a thought.

Bird Boy....has this also been the case during the rut?...my camaras had some bucks on them during this time....but lately, they have vanished!:(...i think they are laying low with all the recent pressure they experienced during the 6 day buck week. I think/hope they will relax a little now and start moving during light!?...good luck to you:wave:

Not to be a smart A$$, but if you not seeing bucks coming to the bait with all this snow on the ground & the low temps, even late at night with the camera, the nice bucks are not in the area your hunting! It might be time to scout around a set up in a different area!! Good luck!

True, true if the big bucks aren't coming to your bait right now being it's post rut, late season, cold as heck and lots of snow on the ground, they are either going to someone elses bait pile in the area, or likely there aren't any in the area.

The big boys wear themselves out during the rut. After the rut they'll hole up to rebuild there strength.

Worn from the rut bucks need to eat 1st to recover. If they can eat and hole up in the same place, great. But, with the lack of availabilty of high carb food this time of year plus snow cover that most likely will be your bait pile left relatively undistirbed. That may be one of his problems, if the areas been overpressured all season now they might still be spooked from the bait but if there's any there he should be getting pics at night. We've found anyway come late season ones that didn't show all season, should be there then. Its still early winter though, good chance a slammer may show yet, got to keep the corn going through January.

Hey Bird Boy, I think my wife may have ran into your mom a while back on one of her walks. She said she met a lady who lived nearby with two beautiful birddogs(Brits I think). I guess something triggered two plus two by some of your posts I've read. My wife had our baby boy and a golden retriever. They talked down the avenue by the horses, if it was your mom you will know where I mean, If not, sorry. I know i saw you and your pops with the boat in tow go by a few times this summer. And yes, the does are thick out back now but the bucks are staying low.

went back out today and in the morning had 3 deer come in. looked like a button, a doe, and maybe a spike. hard to tell because it was at first light when they came in. they smelled us though. think it was because of all the scent that i left in there yesturday. set another treestand in there so that my cuz could sit with me. in the afternoon seen 1 doe. had higher expectation for the afternoon hunt, but thats the way it goes

Nah, I don't hunt back there much. I have access to a big chunk of woods somewhere else. My buddy hunts back there though and does well. Your mom just told my wife you lived up on the knoll. I have an idea what she means. We just moved to the area about 8 or 9 yrs ago, but i've hunted around here for a long time. This is home for us for awhile until we retire and move to montana.

Bird Boy is your camera flash or IR, I have 4 cameras - 1 flash and 3 IR's. On my flash I never seem to get bucks on it and if I do it is ALWAYS 1 and done.. just another thought with it being late in the year if it is flash the bucks after being pressured could be avoiding.
Im still getting bucks but no shooters yet..
Good luck!

I got a crazy story about pics of deer, from 2 trail cameras, at the same tree stand, 2 seperate bait piles around the stand, and does to bucks ratio. This is the info collected from Dec. 20 till Dec. 29 (9 days)
651 -- pictures taken by both cameras
600 -- approximate pics with deer in pics
350 -- pics taken during shooting daylight time
300 -- pics taken during dark time
0 -- pics of any BUCKS :thdown::nuts::huh::mad:

This time of year the bucks are very spooky. Also they are concentrated around food sources. Trying to replenish their reserves they have depleted during the rut. This is the most dangerous time for a deer (especially for a buck). Many buck change over to strict nocturnal movement. I haven't seen a buck since the last Thursday of rifle. So far I only know of one tall 6pt that has made it. I only know of this because the landowner saw him. And they hear of me telling what is around year after year. Their are 7 different bucks on this property and so far only this tall 6 has made it. I believe their are more, but I won't know for sure untill I go shed hunting this spring. I'm actually not suprised this tall made it because he was always a cautious buck. I only ever saw him in the stand once. I saw him twice out scout spotting and once on my trail cam. Most of the time if I see a buck now it was jumped to me, but thats just my spots. I guess if you had a spot with little to no pressure you could very well connect with a buck.
