Ok for all the nay sayers and friends who want to dress her in pink dresses, my dog Dink is not just a pretty face! She's a lap dog by night and blood hound by day....best of both worlds! this fall she tracked her first deer, she was a 9 month old Mini Dachshund I been training her since she was 3 months old and 2 pounds!

not tellin ya not to post your finds just be careful you may be incriminating yourself it is not legal to use a dog to recover a deer however if your "just walking your dog " nothing you can do wished i had a dog to track my deer nj is retarded your allowed in most states to use a dog to recover ohio is one of those states they actually have dogs for hire out there

Thank you for the heads up I know i'm taking a chance but I would fight that ridicules law tooth and nail! It's not like I'm running deer with a 9 pound mini dachshund. I was tiered of friends loosing deer that with the help of a good dog they could be ethically recovered, with the help from John Jeanneney (deersearch.org/) book I trained Dink every week thru the summer and although she is still a pup she shows signs of being a great tracker. Out of 6 deer she tracked this fall she found the 2 ( the ones that died)the others were a combination of really bad non lethal shots and one went into a swamp that was over the pups head. My son miscalculated the distance on a real nice buck(and he is on our USA Archery team and won 2 gold medals and a Silver at the world games this summer) so it can happen to anyone, he hit the buck in the brisket just under the heart and that deer bled great at first then it went to a drip we lost the trail after a hundred yards I got Dink and she instantly picked up the trail and followed it for 3/4's of a mile before we pulled her off the trail (went onto private property) she cryed all the way back to the truck! I was told that NJ was going to let a few people track deer by special permit similar to NY laws, I hope that is true and i'm going to look into it.

I thought it was legalf the dog was leashed, there used to be a guy around here you could call and for a VERY SMALL fee -he would track your deer with his dog, its not like he is chasing deer to standers :)merry christmas

My question is "Is it hunting if you don't have a weapon in N.J.?" I've done this once before with my St. Bernard mix (the one with the deer gut) anyway we tracked this deer for 2 miles across the bottom of my mountain. He took me right to it. Now, I drag a piece of fresh deer hide around the woods on a rope and get the whole pack involved as training. I'm a firm believer in using your house pup as a deer tracker. It works. If you don't have a dog, grab neighbors when he ain't looking, and put him back over the fence when your done.:D OK maybe you should ask permission to use the dog, but I think any "house" dog in good shape will do it.
