Found a beautiful 8 pt laying in the middle of the field on the Private Farm I hunt clearly visible for hundreds of yards.. Also found a 7 pt with a 16 inch spread on the same farm lying in a ditch. Ill attach a pic of the 8pt which clearly was slug hit thru the gut. 7 pt was too torn up to find a bullet hole. I let the 8 pt walk by 3/4 times during the bow season, he would of been a shooter next year for sure. Makes you wonder what happened with the person/persons who shot the deer? Both deer were lying 100 yards from any woods, I would think recovery should of happened. Pretty disgusted about it..

We have all lost deer, but only after exhaustive searches.

It sounds like these should have been recovered. Probably just plain lazy!

Any chance the farmer is taking some of the deer out for crop damage?

I know I''ve lost deer :( over the years and, even though I tried hard to find them, some that I "knew" were dead got away...it happens and it sucks every time. And if/when those deer were found by another hunter I'd hate for them to think I hadn't given it my all to track my quary. :o Just saying...

Could be any of the suggestions.. I lean toward a poacher on the 8pt thats laying out in the middle of the field. Stevie Wonder could of found that deer, Could be someone was afraid to expose themselfs recoverying it. would of been no where to hide dragging him off..Milestone deer, both would probally of been something special next year with the Genetics Ive seen..

Well someone returned to the scene of the crime and hacked the headoff the 8pt.. When I pulled up a Bald Eagle was at the Carcass. That was pretty cool. Didnt know they would feed like a Vulture. beautiful bird regardless

lost two so far in my years of huntin to gut shots. it sucks. it can take as long as 8-12 hrs for a deer die in some cases. it sucks to pass one up for next year just to see him shot by someone else. but if you keep doing that sooner or later it will pay off.

A few years ago I shot at a nice buck at 90 yards ,lost deer due to rain and thought he went down into thick stuff. No sign of a hit !! Next morning after morning watch , went down about 40 yards where I can see below a small ridge. Well guess what I see at bottom of hill in plain view, damn deer ran up towards me and covered itself half up with leaves doing the curly shuffle because of a shoulder shot!!:mad:Always do a circular pattern to look for deer or sign of a hit !! He was bloated and a stinker so I tagged him and ended my season !!

I agree 110%. There's no way someone can shoot a nice deer and not recover it. I'd be chompin' at the bit to put my hands around some antlers if I shot it lawfully. You poach a deer and it goes somewhere that could expose them while recovering, I don't think they're gonna take that chance. And if you even have the nerve to shoot a nice deer legally or illegally and you don't make an effort to recover it to the best of your abilities, you got some balls to call yourself a hunter. Just my two cents.

i mean who knows, a gut shot deer can run a lonnnnnnnnng way before even knowing he was hit. hell i took out both shoulders with a slug and had 1 run about 100yards.

Arrowsplitter, the Bald Eagle is primarily a scavenger. Don't let all of those majestic images of Bald Eagles swooping down and taking Salmon fool you.

Benjamin Franklin actually argued against the Bald Eagle being used our National Symbol. He wanted to use the Wild Turkey. He said they were "noble birds."

Scavenger or not it was a Beautiful looking bird.. makes sense now, thought I was seeing things!.. Thanks for the info.. I shot a doe one time in a Blizzard similar to the one we had this week, hit it very similar to the buck I found. It ran 100 yards down a hedgerow, turned around and stared at me for 15 seconds. I thought I missed it and then it staggered a little. I chased it down about another 50 yards from there. found it laying in a bed all disorientated. I ran all the way back to get my fanny pack with the knife in it. came back and the deer was gone, found it another 30 yards away stone dead. I figured it lived 5/6 minutes minimum with a hole thru boths sides from a 385 gr buffalo bullet Looked like a liver/gut shot. So they can go a long way dead on there feet. For anyone who thinks they all fall in there tracks, they dont.. Keep looking..

I shot one with my muzzeloder at 30 yards with a 235 grain bullet, the deer ran 80 yards, when i gutted it i found the heart was exploded from the bullet, i though i made an un-perfect shot because it ran so far until i gutted it:)
