3. Set up your camera to capture the moment to share here on The Barn.
4. Change into somethin festive for the video..Holiday boxershorts, tank top and some 609 flip flop or sandals perhaps..
5. Back to step1.,....no peeking, but I encourage vigorous shaking just before opening!!!!
6. After vigorous shaking...Have at it UB...OPen 'er up real quick!!!!! And happy Holidays!!
I can see the scene on video now...A scene like the race in Martinsville...Round and round the house ya go!!

i will put on my "Ralffie" pants, with matching shirt. i love that movie!
i will set up the GL1 on the tripod for youtube.
i'm game. i know a guy that makes scent reducing spray by the gallon. that will help with the "gift"
it will not be the first time i got boxes in the mail that smelled skunky. just ask the lady that drops off the boxes from minnesota trapline products.:D she can't wait to get those boxes out of the truck.
stiks i agree. those reds are suicidal.

They must be suicidal,! I'm actually catchin em! I hit my goal for the season already.
That kit went into the box that the farmer keeps directly under his quail pen. You can see the quail droppings on the cage. I woulda released him somewhere else, but I was asked to trap fox on that piece and he caught him and asked me to take care of it, so so be it. The big buck was snared, but the farmer told me he caught a bigger one than that in the havahart back in October:eek:. They eat the feet off of the quail from underneath. He shoves the dead quail into the havahart.
Ralfie jammies on video would rock........

there was a guy along the river down here that caged a red. i'm sure it happens, but that s the only one i heard of around here. redneck may of had it happen to him, he's been in the game for many moons.
most of the time now, i have sweets in the cages. trying to get away from fish, too many skunks. but with the boat down the shore, it's cheap bait.
i will get going in another month. still hung up on deer right now.

I imagine it's a pretty rare thing..that's why I was surprised when the farmer told me he caught a bigger one just last month. I saw guys that do it outta state with live bait, but not like he's doing for the coons.
I tried the fish thing too....no skunks, but lots of feral cats though. I've switched to using day old donuts I get from the guy that owns the local D&D....lots of sugary icing and creme filling and cant beat the price. Stopped catchin cats and started catchin some raccoons. Afraid a pile of snow is gonna shut me down for a bit starting tomorrow though....Hope I catch a couple today to keep me busy...got a few int he freezer for boarding anyway.

No I have never caged a red never really tried to. Most I know that catch reds in cages are urban around the houses on control jobs or first year pups by chance And most of the time by new trappers LOL. I ask what they did to do it and thay can't tell me because they don't know what they did LOL
I can see the situation of reds all sizes like mud talked about. the fox have been pre conditioned to the tight area and the safety factor is there as they have been doing it for a while.
I only use sweet baits in the early part up till freeze then fish or meat. along with sweet as the short call. this snow comin tomorrow we should be set to night I have nothing out. but pre baiting coon.
Dang Mud I am glad you are up there and not down here LOL your doing to good for what first year or 2nd LOL

They were on the move last night!
Almost had a Phil Brown morning....a bad one for him LOL.
First property I lost one...dammit. He had no entanglement and he kept circling the sapling I was anchored to and he wore down the sapling till it let go...
Next spot I pulled the two off of yesterday and still had 7 snares set there...3 connected!!

Shoulda had four though!!! Gona start shifting off that piece already..6 reds there this week. Think that's about what I hoped for there. Will set for big dogs there, but move on for reds.

you will still catch the reds in the big, high loops, if they can't see them. the way you reds run around with their heads high and eyes closed.
your density is crazy.
running out of boards yet? good problem to have.
that middle has better color. top and bottom are full ass frosted.

Mud you using extensions or tying off? never had a extension do that thay always wrap around the sapling because the eye sinches up on fox and coon.
mudmarlin70

Im using extensions looped around the sapling. for the most part, they've been entangling or biting down on the anchor point. Maybe this one got hung up on its own ferrel and didt draw tight, i dont know. the sapling was really warn around the bark whre you could see he had gone incirlcles all night and I guess one good lunge and it let go.
Had two more this morning, one had mange and the other was another pretty buck.
Got called in tonight to work, but I'll be daylight calling sometime this week with the snowpack!

always anchor for your largest animal. a coyote is tough.
but, i do the same thing. but never lost anything to a small anchor point. i only use them in entanglement.
but i did have a coyote find the anchor point and chew the 3/32 extension off. it must of chew the end loop, because there was nothing left. it chewed off every sapling at 12" high, for the 20' circle it had to work with.
not sure what you got for snow up north, but we have around 21". i'm sure guys running lines today are having a tough time finding sets.

it will be 2 days for our fox to start to move and they will be up on top every thing out is a no go. unless the trapper plows to the snares LOL
I have trail cam out on a cubbie set testing some scents, about 2 feet off the ground friday night, was going to get it today most likly under snow now LOL

We didnt get nearly that much...probably a foot plus near work where I'm set right now and only about ten inches near home here. Enough to bury everything this morning....yup redneck, it's plowed out right after work;). Foxes were already moving last night near work even in the snow. Crawl unders were totally buried but the trails were travelled a bit.
Hopefully back in the game tomorrow. I'm checkin a new place I just got a call on with the snow. Lots of yotes allegedly. this snow will tell the tale. Hope to hang a few if I see location. But I want back at the reds.
That break off was the first one I've had at the anchor. I went a little light on the anchor there to keep him off the fence. Probably shoulda anchored to the fence. Lesson learned.
Hope to get caught up a little with the boarding with a bit of down time. A couple opening up. I need the belly boards more than the stretchers.
I'd like to post a couple pics of fur for some input if you fellas dont mind critiquin a bit...I think they look ok so far.
Yesterday's buck....heavy in the body. Got in the burs a bit. Needs a good brushing.

nice plump looking fox.
is there any cherries up there? you have a ton of frosted fox up there.
i thought we had bad color, but i think your area has us beat.
i hope you made about 30 boards for all these.
mudmarlin70
12-22-2009, 02:49 PM
There's a handful of cherries, but most have that frosting. Yesterdays was nice and one of the two today looks real good. I got one about two weeks ago in the rain that is probably my best. I didnt post a pic when he was a wet rat, but he put up at about 37" and very nice. Seems like the ones I catch just to my SOuth have better coller. The ones to my East have all been frosted.
I'm a bit backed up UB. I've been rotating off boards and fleshing-rolling and freezing. I may knock down for a few days till I'm caught up. 'm getting plenty of practice, but I sure aint quick.

quick helps, but good is what the buyer wants. he don't care how long it took ya.
this is making me want to start a line. but i can't let go of the deer yet. need a few more to make movie stars out of, that and the freezer isn't quite there yet.
most of my places i can't touch till after deer season.

k9's on wire is some type of sin, almost positive.
i'll give ya rats, maybe coon. but coon look better on wood 100%.
or i like all the pin holes in the finger tips from picking them out of the jar.
