I hunt in zone 27 which has the 3 pt rule like some of the other zones. I think it is a great rule i'm all for letting the bucks grow old and big. The program is great and has payed off because there some really nice bucks around. There probably are several flaws in the program but one stands out to me the most. That is the 6 Doe days in January!
All the bucks we,ve been letting go because they are to small:wave: are now getting shot:huh:, weather they have lost there horns or people kick them off. How can you implament a rule like that all season then turn around and throw it out the window for 1 week:huh: Its not all about how many tag are giving out its how and when to use them.:naughty:

I hunt in 27 and 28 and couldn't agree with you more. In that regulation set...set 4...there should be just the three doe days this week, and then ML season until the end of December. January should be a winter bow month only. Gun guys can now go get a crossbow, it's just like shooting a gun so they can't complain about not getting time, and the deer may get a little break.

There is no reason, other than making money, to have such long gun seasons. It has nothing to do with deer management because there is no over-population of deer in the zones in Reg set 4. Total incompetence on the part of the Fish and Game Council, total incompetence. But it will never change because they are jerks. People will continue to go out and drive the crap out of public land, shooting up everything that moves because the Fish and Game Council jerks allow them, and what you permit you promote. This means fewer and fewer deer each year, and eventually losing hunters, as many find it's just not worth spending all the money we have to spend to go sit in a woods devoid of deer.

Shortening the season, and having a better deer herd available, and thus a better chance of seeing something when you go afield, will do more to retain hunters than will having a long season where you sit alot of days and see nothing.

I always thought the same up in north jersey w/ the muzzleloader weeks after six day, then a month of bow. Add in all the bucks that are hit by automobiles and how many older bucks do you really end up seeing when you're hunting??
