What are some of your strategies to hunting gamelands? Are hunters respetful to others? I am going to give a particular gameland a shot. How do u hunt it what kind of stand do u use without ruining the trees.(the law states u cant ruin the trees).
Thanks ron

On state gamelands I always use a climber or a ground blind. The small percentage of a-hole hunters out there will eventually find your lock-on or ladder stand and steal it.
Try getting a topo map and an aerial map of the game lands you plan on hunting. Stay off the beaten path and try to locate swamps and/or hemlock stands. These seem to be the most productive areas for hunting big bucks. Most aerial and topo maps will display this information. Get yourself a handheld GPS or at least a compass. This is a valuable tool especially if you are unfamiliar with the lands. You don't want to get turned around in some of the big game lands like PA state gamelands 13. 53,000 acres can be a long walk until you eventually hit a road.

If you are worried about getting your stand stolen on state property you will never make it out in the woods hunting this year! I have 3 or 4 out right now in the woods and I am not the least bit concerned about them. I suggest scouting the area for deer activity, then secondly scout the area for nearby hunters meaning ribbons or cats eyes leading to a stand etc.... From my experience it is wise for you to do this so you don't get stuck with an arrow from another hunter on the first day your out their. Don't worry about the trees mother nature has a way of healing them! get yourself a nice ladder stand or a climbing stick with a lock on stand and your set to go!
Good luck hunting...

Personally when I hunt SGL land during archery I try and find escape routes and funnels. I also use a climbing treestand. What SGL land you plan on hunting? I noticed your in Drexel Hill. I was just wondering since I live in SE Pa and I've hunted all of the SGL land in SE Pa. If you need any advice or help with a certain area shoot me a PM and I'll try and help you out as best as possible.

there are some nice bucks on the state game lands. I always packed in my climber and tried to find an area that isn't hunted hard. Typically, I hunt in the thickest nastiest stuff I can find. I bring a set of hand pruners and clip a small path that only I would be able to find....put in your time and you will find the deer

One move I have used in the past is to get a map of the state land you are hunting. You'll notice that on some of the properties that the designated parking area is set well into the property. If that's the case park and back-track to the "front" of the property. I've found that alot of people either don't study the area or assume that the property starts at the parking spot. It seems that most times people park and head straight out to the rear of the property.
