:confused:opening day of shotgun zone 65 winslow rd it was myself and one other truck, usually the road is linned up.heard only 1 shot anywhere close to me.has hunting really gone down that fast? even my buddies didnt go.it used to b 6 of us every yr we would get breakfast at mr bills or grannys porch back in a day than head out.this yr im alone maybe were getting to the age of ho hum i dont know but dont like it. i like the camaraderie during gun season since bow is a quiet time and i like to hunt alone.gotta go get in tree before orange army decideds its my pices turn to drive ,,,lol.good luck to all if theres anybody left.

i just got back from zone 8 and only a handful of guys. and only heard 2 shots. even from the hills surrounding our area. no hunters, no deer, or both. this has to be the quietest opening day i ever heard. now if the state boasts that hunterdon co. was the leading harvest again, then i know its BS. the sounds from shots from distant areas travel far up there from hill to hill and there were NONE. 1 thing was nice its still snow covered @ 4" in some places

Its simple. No deer, no hunters. Its actually a good thing as with no hunters becasue of no deer now it may give the deer the chance they need to replenish, and the cycle can start all over again. I stopped hunting in NJ ever since the state commanded hunters to commence upon the slaughter...so you can't blame me!!!!

I'm pretty sure this is all due to the increase in x-gun hunters...:D They shot all the good bucks already and prolly took out about a dozen does each so that's why the deer count is down too...

I'm sure you posted that to be funny, but I spoke with someone from the Division (NJ) about an hour ago at a check station, and let's just say, you are not too far off. They are all, too use his words, "very surprised" at just how high the number of deer killed with crossbows is. Way higher than anyone there expected, wayyyy higher.

He posted it to be an ignoramus, anyhow he's probably drinking the herd reduction coolaid of the PA Game Comission just like so many in NJ did and will wonder where all the deer went when there's none to hunt where he goes too. My 71 yr old buddy after getting back from an "archery" elk hunt (and he got one, nice 5x5) hurt his back and couldn't pull back his bow for the opener of the PA archery season so he borrowed our club owners crossbow. He had never shot a crossbow before and ended up getting a deer day 1 out with it. His remark to us about his hunt was "It was so easy, it wasn't even fun" So, for anyone who thinks crossbows aren't going to make it so much easier for us to kill more deer as is our states goal, and in turn kill the deer hunting tradition, which is already done for most the traditional hunting clubs in both states, you're sadly mistaken.

Monday in my zone was EMPTY for muzzleloader, tuesday morning same thing, come tuesday evening as we were leaving, trucks were parked all over the place..it's amazing. I didn't bowhunt this year due to work, kids etc..so I don't know how many were out bowhunting in my area...however I do know the Total amount of deer harvested in my zone has declined 50% since about 4 or 5 years ago.

yup they baited us all in on that one. and 90% of the hunters i believe took it hook, line, and sinker. ive never taken more than 1 doe per year. but many many people shot does day after day, after day, for years now. and the herds in those zones i truly believe is hurting. but i also believe thats what the residents in those areas, the car insurance companies, and the state wanted. i can honestly say that when i was a kid hunting up there ,there was non stop deer activity all day, hell i used to kick them up as i was leaving the woods. ive seen 4 deer in my area over the last 3 years, yes just 4. now the snow has been on the ground since saturday night, and i only cam across a dozen tracks or so. pretty sad. but just watch the harvest numbers when they come out , iam willing to bet that hunterdon will be #2 or #3 gauranteed.

it had nothing to due with deer numbers.REMEMBER MOST GUYS WHO HUNT SIXDAY FIREARM HAVE NO IDEA HOW MANY DEER R OUT THERE.IF THEY DONT BOW HUNT THE KNOW NOTHING.IVE SEEN PLENTY OF DEER DURING THE SEASON THEY R WAY DOWN (NO ARGUMENT) .YOU CAN MISS WITH A CROSSBOW JUST LIKE YOU CAN WITH A THOUSAND DOLLAR SET UP BY MATHEWS,YOU STILL SHAKE AND ITS WORSE LOOKING THROUGH A SCOPE.I HUNTED ZONE 25 AND 65 EVERYSINGLEDAY AND ONLY ONCE SAW 2 GUYS WITH CROSSBOWS.ALL I WAS SAYING WAS NO PEOPLE.....AND TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE THIS AFTERNOON I WAS IN TREE AT 12.20 AND AT 320 THIS DUDE COMES RITE INTO PIECE IM HUNTING.REMEBER THERES LIKE 3MILES OF ROAD ON WINSLOW AND THERE WAS NO OTHERS AROUND BUT HE HAD TO HUNT WHERE I WAS UUUUUGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!LOL 2 DEER WERE COMING OUT CAUGHT WIND OF THIS PENIS AND LEFT 5 HOURS FOR SQUAT...

I hunt 65 on private land(well what we thought was OUR private land) it backs up to the state woods and dont you know sure as sugar....clowns from the state woods couldnt see the signs posted and somehow found there way on our land....then in 65 same location on the state side there was guys gunning down doe like it was permit season, NO WAY IN HELL I HEARD 13 shots before 8:30 and they were all at bucks, I know spike is legal over there but some of the clowns that hunt the area should be bannished from hunting, sorry for throwing a blanket on the zone but Ive seen it all today from a guy coming in the woods after light to hunt this morning, a guy hunting in ALL BLACK WITH NO ORANGE:huh: as well as the two dudes I watched walk in the woods(one of the guys was in the black) sat for 15 mins and drug a deer out 10 mins later at dark....guess he was REAL LUCKY and caught that buck just intime:naughty:. I wish I had a Warden on speed dial today...the orange army came in with flashlights at 6:45!!!!! Needless to say they had deer running back and forth everytime the settled down, some other jerk came trudging through. HOW CAN U ENTER THE WOODS AT 6:45 on opening day? Well I had a shot at a NICE 8 pt...45yds in thicket with buckshot...2 3/4 shell. No blood:thdown: I didnt really like the shot selection I used to be totally truthful but as my cousin always tells me, it only takes 1 pellet to kill...and demostrated that lastweek in Va when he PARALYSED a deer with 1 pellet and finished him by hand. So there are people in the woods in 65 LUCKY for you they arent in your area. So having the woods to yourself may be a good thing, I cant wait until wednesday when the 2 days killers leave the woods until Saturday when they drive ALLDAY LONG then they will be gone until next year---most dont buy permits because they kill doe during 6 day and I'll have WINTER BOW ALL TO MYSELF AGAIN:thup:

I always thought zone 65 was all winslow wildlife no private ground. I thought any private ground surronding it was zone 25. Anyway I hunted bow in 65 and only ran into 2 guys this season I would not go near there this week. Good luck I cant believe it is 8:30 and not one person has posted a kill on this site for today.

Well we found out THE HARD WAY that isnt true. Malaga Rd, Huber ave. Corkery Lane...that area there is 65 and has both private and state, trust me! 4 years ago we all purchased zone 25 permits, thinking the same thing(the border line is tricky and can be a naussience) that you stated..65 is state so we are in 25 right? WRONG! I was ticketed for killing a doe on doe day with a zone 25 permit....the border line couldnt be closer and the asshole Warden could tell we ALL HAD 25 permits(legally--but the confusing description in the manual had us all in the wrong zone) as my uncle hunted it as 25 and tagged MANY DEER out of there. So thats how WE found out(the warden pulled out a book and traced the border, we fell in 65 BARELY) and my uncle(70 yrs old) now knows the land he hunted for 30 years as 25 really isnt or wasnt. Honest mistake and the warden sank a ticket on me, but today ALL THE WRONG I SAW and no GAME COPS anywhere I looked.
Coyotes yelping this morning:fight: Meant a guy at WaWA on corkery lane that nailed a coyote.....THEN HAD THE GULL AND BALLS to ask is it legal to kill one, and do you need a permit to do so:nuts:
Now THATS blantantly not knowing the rules, and ignorant.

I hunt in central NJ zone 16 and this year when I was able to get out saw 1 6 pointer ( no shot on the move ) Veterans Day and three does at last light last Saturday , today I went out with my dad in afternoon saw 2 cars on the entire road this was a huge disappointment as I was counting on some other guys to push things around . I feel strongly that the baiting that has been alllowed totally screwed up the natural way a deer finds food , to browse . All these corn piles have made the deer more nocturnal then ever knowing that food is always available and the unlimited does just a total slaughter if you have the right spot and the time . Opinions are like A#@HOLES , everyone has ONE !!!!!!!! lol :)

Well, you'll be happy to know there are alot of studies out there that support your strong feeling, and prove this is what happens when baiting is allowed.

DONT WANNA START ARGUMENT HERE SO DONT GET MEAN LMAO..i dont use bait until winter when i wanna b pretty sure ill get one for freezer.my point is if you sit a pile you notice (most times) the deer r browsing your pile they stay only a few minutes.5-10 most of time your pile is browse, they come eat some and move on.deer eat all night and if they only relied on your pile im sure 5 deer will eat whole thing at one sitting but they dont,it puts them nocternal because its not natural .apples, corn and potatoes dont grow in woods they put 2n2 together DANGER,DANGER, IF YOU WERE TO HUNT 100 YRDS FROM BAIT YOULL SEE THE DEER BROWSING ALL AROUND WAITING TILL DARK TO COME TO THE DANGER FOOD ,ALSO IN MY OPINION A FOOD PLOT IS THE SAME AS CORN SCATTERED AROUND,JUST BECAUSE IT GROWS DOESNT MEAN YOURE NOT BAITING PERIOD

baiting was an awful lot more effective when it was illegal, so i hear:D the deer are wise to bait, i don't think it so much the bait as maybe scent or probably a combination, ever notice how deer rarely travel the same path you use after you have been there a few times with bait, if i had my way i would do away with hunting over bait and crossbows and unlimited does, although in my little part of the world its not unlimited does anymore, thankfully

Most of the people i hunt with are in the same boat as me this year ,working is more important then hunting need the money to pay the bills since summer work was slow . I couldn't even get home in time to sit my stand on monday or tuesday ,did get to get together with a few friends today day and make a few drives all does. Hope everyone is having a good buck week , See Ya

What can he do with 23 deer that's to much meat to eat. Sad vary sad someone could be so unethical and such an slob. Don't let him know where you hunt. After hes done exterminating all the deer in his woods hell move on to yours. Soon all the deer will be gone and this guy will be asking why!! Dumb ass.
