Unfortunately I have quite a few years to wait until I can take my girl out in the woods with me! My wife is 7 1/2 months pregnant right now with our first child and she is due during the rut this November! OH well about the rut... I am just super excited about the baby... I wish you and your kids the best of luck this year and many more years to follow.

I took my son out last year on the mentored hunt. I bought him a crossbow and he bagged a nice one, we also have a 2-man treestand and we both sat in, I talked him thru till he pulled the trigger and stuck a nice Deer! I wish I had the camera with me at the time. You should have seen the look on his face!:D:D He started screaming I GOT IT!! I GOT IT!!! I GOT IT!!! He was 11.
Now he's 12 and has his own lic. and we've been out several times so far and we haven't had the chance to get a Doe yet, but seen plenty of Buck we could have taken without a problem! Imagine That! Well, this saturday Buck opens & I'll bet that we don't see those boys around!

I would love to sign up somewhere and be able to mentor a young guy. I've got good spots:D and wouldn't have a problem taking a young hunter out. Even if he needed the deer butchered I would take care of it. I'm always down for introducing someone young to the wonderful sport of hunting. We need to get more younger guys involved.

Now that's Awesome! And you got that right! We have to keep this sport "that we all love" going! Or these politicians are going to try and take it away! And we can't let that happen! Didn't NJ already lose thier Bear season?

Your doing the right thing by waiting for a while before heading back to track him! Good Luck! Let us know how you make out.

no luck followed blood trail for 150yds then nothing checked everyware maybe in a day or two the buzzards will find him we are sad this hunt we will remember forever it was good and bad I hate to not find a wounded deer it is the worst part of hunting the buck was between 110" and 120" what a great 1st buck it would have been

Man! That's a real shame! I've done it myself as I'm sure a lot of us have!

Took my boy out the first time last winter for squirrels. He was 5. The weather wasn't the best, the area isn't thick for squirrels and he was fidgety. He had a blast, though, just going out with me. This year I've been working with him with the 410 shotgun. He's 6 now and we're going out this Saturday to a piece of more productive ground. I hope he gets one. I would be so proud

Hey Scott,
If you're going to Dave's place, he hunted with his 10 year old daughter Sara yesterday on a crossbow mentor hunt & she got a six point 4 minutes after legal shooting hours started yesterday am...short & sweet-last year she got her buck about a half hour into the season!!!

That's what I was hoping. I emailed him today.

If you hear from him first, tell him to tell the youngster congrats.
