Do not buy Horton crossbows. I bought a Legacy 175 this spring and used it about 4 times this fall. This past Sat. i was hunting in PA and when I unloaded the bow with a field bolt, one of the limbs shattered. I can accept that but can't accept the fact that I have called their service dept. every day this week for a return authorization number and have yet to receive a reply. Unacceptable for a company that says they are the premier crossbow mfr.

Finally got to speak with a real person at Horton. She said they were currently swamped with calls and are about 1 week behind. She was very courteous and hooked me up with another girl in the service dept. who gave me the necessay return number. I Fed X'd it today so will see how long it takes to get it back.

My brother works for a sporting goods store that sells them. He says the manufacturers were not capable of keeping up with the demand created by the successful lobbying efforts buying their way into several states' archery seasons. The demand was 10 times the number of crossbows they were able to make, so they have been getting them made in china very quickly and cheaply. He said alot of them, Hortons specifically, have been coming back in with major problems.

Buyer beware.

I have a 5 year old Horton Nitro hunter, graphed it at just under 300fps.
I have shot several deer and turkeys with it, had it to colorado even, cocked and uncocked, shot hundreds of bolts, other than string wear, no problems other than their quiver sucks, broke off two, got some after market brand, good now.

After missing a monster buck last year using the red dot and dialing to yardage I got a Hawk BRC scope and love it, though it works better on a XBow over 320fps, over 30 yards with mine the 40 line is closer to the 50 and at 40 yards I hold heavy over the 50 line, 50 yards still buries them deep in a block but cant judge good enough myself to feel comfortable taking that shot.

IF you go into Cabelas Hamburg pa and other stores there are a lot of those 175 models cheap.
I think that other poster was spot on, Horton in the last few years went to crap.

If I could spare the money now, I would go with a parker I think.
