Well this past weekend I took the plunge and bought a crossbow. Quite honestly I had no intention of buying one until at least next season because I'm WAY PAST due for an upgrade. But every x-gun I had previously picked up when wondering around a sports/hunting shop seemed heavy and awkward to me. Then on Sunday we stopped at Gander Mountain to pick up some Tinks scents and as usual I did my window shopping in the crossbow area. I picked up a couple and they still didn’t have the right feel for me…then I picked up a Parker Buck Buster and holy smoke it just seemed to melt into my hands. I put it down and walked away because I rarely buy anything like that without doing some research first. I went by it again picked it up and held it in the shooting position and it just felt so comfortable that I saw no reason to search and hold back any longer...I made the purchase.

I had the Buck Buster sighted in less than 30 minutes and it was so incredibly accurate at any distance I shot, even out to 45 yards, that I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I was literally putting the bolt through the same hole with each shot or within an inch.

The Parker Buck Buster is not exactly top of the line and you can see that it doesn’t match up in quality with some of the higher end x-guns (i.e. Ten Point and such) but it seems like a terrific “starter” crossbow for me…but knowing me, it’ll be in my hands for the next ten or more years unless it has some significant issues at some point.

For now, the compound bow will be relegated to a backup role and used just to shoot for fun now and then.

The real test will come when I take that first shot at a deer with my new Buck Buster x-gun.

Oh , and P.S.
This bow was surely meant to be for me...I had favorite hunting hat on that day with a buck and two words next to it...Buck Buster! :D

Well I traded 3 stick bows for now for a x-bow and it just happens to be a Parker / Buck Master 150 and I like it so far. Don't have a need to have to talk about what I got with it so far this year but its all good. A little hard for me to get acclimated to it and still working it out but so far I'm pleased.

The guy wanted 500.00 for it and I traded 2 bighorn take downs and a Kohana take down tricked out for this X.

I wanted to see just what these weapons could do so I borrowed an old x-bow early season and I found out. I then later made this deal a couple weeks ago and although I severly miss my sticks for right now this is the trail I took.

Call it for what it is if makes you happy but it's what I am using for now and I'm thankful.

Right now I fear at the moment of truth I'll forget to switch off that safety on the trigger, hit the trigger and nothing happens! :o

I shoot a Parker cyclone, It is so accurate, at 45 yards, I was ruining arrows. I have a block target with 4 bulls eyes on it, I never shoot at the same target twice. The first time I took it out hunting I shot a buck at 35 yards, the arrow blew right thru the deer and burried into the ground. I double lunged the deer and it ran 60 yards and crashed. The blood trail was 2 feet wide, 60 yards long. The deer dressed out at 150 pounds.

With all do respect,Please don't apologize for having the b_lls to try something new.
How far from a crossbow is a compound with 80% let off, sights, kisser, peep, drop away rest, stabilizer, wrist sling and most of all a TRIGGER release aid from a crossbow?
Who's kidding Who?
NO excuses, NO apologies, for shooting something YOU enjoy.
PEACE.......

I have a MAthews DXT and also the Parker (gun?) Tonado. I killed three deer with the crossbow my fist year with it. I also missed three. I love that parker though. It balances so nice. However, in a tree you have to have enough clearance for the limbs which are now horizontal, vs vertical with a regular bow.

You still need to know range, and practice from a tree in the woods. Range estimation is just as important (close anyway).

Using my Mathews DXT with a release, carbon shafts and mechanicals, its a killer for sure. dont let the guys knock crossbows. You still ahve to get close, and judge distance, and shoot the animal correctly.

When does a bolt become an arrow? Is there a certain length? Bolts are just short arrows if ya ask me.:confused:
