I just recieved permission to hunt private land in chester co. It is 8 acres. Is this enough land to hunt! I aksed the owner what was it like. an over grown cleared field surrounded by woods. My buddy and i are taking a ride sun to check it out. Any suggestions how to start scouting an area. I am new at this. I started bow hunting 2 yrs ago, and i go to bradford county on my friends property and just plop my stand in a tree that looks good. because bradford is so far no scouting was done. any help would be appreciated
THANKS,

Sounds exciting! First thing I would recommend is to get your boundries/borders nailed down with the owner. Use maps/topos if you have to or better yet use satelite photos from a sight like this.. http://maps.live.com/ . You don't want to spoil your new found situation because of conflicts with locals or neighbors. Last thing I'd want to happen is a phone call from a disgruntled neighbor to the land owner.
Second, walk the edge of the field to find where and if deer are entering. Tracks, droppings worn paths...the usual. If you have room on the property, I wouldn't sit on the edge, back into the woods where you locate sign on the field. This will help you see deer before last light, when they are in the staging area, waiting to expose themselves in the field at dusk (evening hunt.) I like to be 50 to 100 yards from the field edge, but on the first few sits, I'd probably favor a tree close enough to the edge that I could see movement in the field in case I missed something about the deer movement from the sign.
Third, you could always take me:D
Goog luck, let us know how you make out.

It's a little to late to scout the land, as mention before use your resources and find well used trails coming out on the field. Then get a trail camera for two reasons see what you have and tells you the time the deer are moving. Good Luck!

this is the type of spot that should have a nice buck in it I would not scout it at all now, its to close to the season and two guys walking around in a deers core area now would just show that the spot was good before you ruined it. pick two or three nights this week glass the field from opposite side of the woods make sure wind is right get there around one hour before dark then dont hunt it in the mornings you will spook the deer going to your spot hunt the afternoons pick a spot based on what you have seen glassing only hunt when the wind is right and you should have a good chance of bagging the big one in that area the first week or two they might still be on their summer feeding pattern so if you see a good buck use the same trail while glassing you might get it done the first week of the season. I have been hunting small areas my whole life with graet success this is how to hunt a spot like this i hope you listen to me but you most likely wont good luck

The biggest buck of your life is probably close by and you dont want to scare him off but you do want to determine the direction of deer movement in that area. Se PA is all funnels. A funnel is a spot or area where all deer movement is foced to come together in a narrow corridor. If this land contains a good funnel between feeding and beddding areas you have a goldmine there.
To much preasure or a begginer mistake like leaving your scent around or aproaching from the wrong direction could realy ruin the chance at the big un but you should still be able to raise hell on the does and smaller bucks if you can find a good funnel.
The biggest problem in theese areas is tracking a wounded deer onto and through neighbors yards. Make sure you ask permision before this situation comes up and you are knocking on some antis kitchen door at 8am dressed in full camo. Make sure you have written permision to be where you are alowed because you will be meeting the local police department if yu have to track off the property you are on. Practice, practice, and practice somemore so your shot is clean and you can keep the deer on your eight acres.
The first thing I would have done after obtaining permision to this land was to keep it quiet and not inviting anone else on.
