Don't know too much about x-bows and personally don't care to. However I would like to purchase one for my father for x-mas this year. What's a nice reliable, affordable and easy to shoot x-bow for someone just starting out? Any info is great..thanks.

depending on what you mean by afordable and your fathers age and abilitys if he's like me starting to slow down alittle barrnett is by price the way to go a little more money a barrnett preditore very fast accuret not to expensive fully equiped w/ a crank handle to load the bow prob. around 750.00to 800.00 if he can cock the bow with acocking device 650.00 to 700.00 with a package deal mayby 650.00 from barrnett with shiping thats top of the line for them and loud bow you can go up from there from what I'v heard hear on the barn parker has had alot of problems so be advised 10 point an excelant bow from 1200.00 to 2000.00 may be the top of the line hoyt ,pse, six point all good but pricey remenber read what people complane about thats where you'll find the wright bow and If your lucky some one ether will meed the money or not the bow and you can get a good deal used just look for sales and a good deal used with all the equipment with you can get lucky here some times it good luck

i purchased a barnnet preditor this season very fast and dead on out to fifty yards but i wouldnt recomend shooting that far dont know if it holds enouigh kenetic energy beyond 40 yards .This is a very heavy xbow book says its 9 pounds mine is 11 +.if your dad is able to use this the price is resonable but if 11 pounds is more than he can handle i would recomend a recurve less bulk but they tend to be wider due to the limbs.Excaliber out of canada makes a nice xbow in several different modelsand draw wieghts dont hold your breath waiting for someone to send you one if your in n.j.most companies wont .Take a trip to cabelas and try a few out .Ther isnt a comfortable way to hold one ofthese on stand short of across your lap they dont cradle very well.hope this helps good luck.

It does have enough energy to kill a deer at 50 yards. My first deer was a doe at 50 yards uphill, double lung pass through then the bolt hit the power line tower ten yards on the other side. Bolt was destroyed and left a nice gouge in the tower. You're right it is a heavy crossbow though, but very accurate
