i would love to use my tag tonight.
but i will not lower my standards just to burn the tag. i will eat it before i shoot a 1 1/2 old.
not saying what you did was wrong. i was there at one time. any bow kill is a trophy.

I totally agree with ub1243. Been there also.At 1 time I would shoot the first deer that would give me the opertunity. But once you find yourself that sweet spot that holds big bucks, you will learn to be more patient,or want to be more patient. and let the spikes and 1 1/2 yr old bucks walk.Even if it means eating your tag.i'll shoot a nice doe like 90+lbs only if i know there are plenty where I hunt.otherwise I will go without shooting any deer.(Also i tell everyone that Bowhunts that any deer taken with a bow including xbow are trophys. Congrats on the shot njbowhunter. Hope the big one shows up soon.Good Luck an Congrats.

Good clean kill and meat for the freezer, remember guys everyone has their own stage, there was a time when we all just wanted to fill a tag. Nice job on the harvest, time to up the standard.

:thup:nice shot, congrats, but why shoot a yearling, smack a doe, let him grow a few years, unless it was you first, not bashing but it my two cents, if every one gets on the same page we could have awsome deer like other states, just because the state lets you kill all these deer doesnt mean we have to, we will ruin our own sport, just like the fisheries,

Njbowhunter, nice buck! If it made you feel good than have at it! I would have probably shot a 6 pointer (3-point rule)this morning to keep the farmer happy.

Thanks guys I dont have the privledge of hunting a private spot where I can manage the deer. I hunt a public wma so if I pass the next guy wont. I am not a head hunter anyway. I hunt for meat I did not shoot this deer to fill my my tag I would have shot it if it was the first day of the season. Untill there is a law that says I cant shoot a small buck I will continue to shoot them. For everyone that is gonna repley and say why dont I wait for a doe then my response to that is I paid the same as you and I am gonna shoot what I want. Sorry if that pisses guys off but my freezer is full and I am happy with MY TROPHEY.

no one is pissed. with the collection of guys on here, we have a collection of views. these views change through out the hunting career. you will go through phases. you will see, in time, that passing those little bucks helps. it took me some time. keppy will tell you, i have a bunch of spikes and scrubs mounted on wood. but i have learned to pass those little guys, you will too.
there is a local guy that hunts the same WMA as you. this man kills some of the biggest deer in the area. how? he passed on most bucks.
those bigger bucks are there, just 10 minutes behind the little ones.
enjoy your trophy.

Congradulations, we all shot small ones when we started. They taste better anyway. My biggest buck I had to throw all the meat away it tasted like dogfood.

Thoses old does are alot harder than thoses "big" bucks are this time of year.Any deer with a bow is trophy in my eyes but then again I like strawberry icecream.Like others are saying the more you kill the more you will want a bigger one. They all taste yummy and you can't eat the horns.Fill your freezer and hope for a bigger one.If your worried that someone else is gonna shoot it than you might as well give it up.You'll drive yourself crazy.Congrats on a fine kill.
Thats why this state sucks so bad for trophy deer. To many tags given out and to many immature deer shot
