Crossbows will be legal in NJ for the 2009/2010 archery seasons (not this years winter bow).

See:

I am looking forward to it. I have been a bow hunter since 1954 and welcome the change. I have a crossbow and plan to take it to northern Maine during the November 2008 firearm season. If I go on stand I will use the crossbow but, when still hunting I will carry my .308 win.

Check the Barn sale next year. You may be able to get a good deal on a Hoyt..

One way to stimulate the economy.

i think i will stick to my bow, a crossbow just does not seem as much of a challenge, i am all for it with people with disabiltys, maybe the people that can't shoot a bow will cripple less deer :)

In PA they are legal. As far as a challenge, I have shot them and feel that they get more folks in the woods that don't have the time or the skill to be proficient with a bow.. Don't blow a gasket, not insulting anyone, just an opinion.. Less movement when deer are moving in, can be shot from a sitting position easier than a compound or long bow.. put the red dot on the deer 40 yards out and shoot.. As far as range, they have the same limited range in PA, because you are restricted in draw weight....

I'm good with the bow, but I'm human and somtimes make mistakes. Mistakes lead to injured deer. I just want to be able to make better clean kills. (it will make me sleep better)

Thats just me. I know there are guys that dont make mistakes and are consistant with killing deer.

Pro choice for bows I guess.

If you think crossbows are the answer to less crippled deer, you are sadly mistaken. They are no more accurate than your compound.Just one hunters opinion;)

I was at a 3-d shoot this pass sun. I was told by the people running the shoot. That I should call my state rep. and send a letter to stop the use of crossbows. That being said, I will stick to my bow ,but I don't have a promblem with people using a crossbow under the laws. This internal fighting between hunters should stop. To each their own!

Crossbows are a touchy subject for sure. I started using a crossbow in 5d in Pa. last season to shoot management does and wound up shooting 5 with it. They are extremely lethal, more so than a bow in my opinion, but easier to get in trouble wounding deer because some guys will stretch their range because they have that scope and think they can take a 50 yarder when they never even tried it on the range. For me, it a way to kill more does in the late season when they hang up at 30-35 yards. Personally I don't think they should be legal during the regular archery season, but since they are, I use one in conjunction with my bow because I hunt properties where many does need to be taken. At this point in the season, I use my Bowtech because I'd rather take one with the bow any day and definitely want my buck with the bow.
