Iowa or ohio hunting trip

I am looking for some input on a trip to Iowa or Ohio. Ive been to illinois and missouri gun and bow. I would like to go next year 1st bow or 1st gun. I'm not sure if these states are lotteries or you can book with a guide and buy a license. Lookin for a good outfitter or any input I can get, i'm lookin to do a good whitetail hunt.(FAIR CHASE ONLY) Thanks for any info.

Ohio is over the counter. Iowa is a lottery, must build up points, most times it take 3 years to build points. You can get on a landowners (gang) license for shotgun, if you know someone there thats a resident. I think the deer must be taken during a drive. Not much state land, but knocking on doors is easier than here in the east.

Ohio is easier to get a tag, and has decent hunting, depending on where you go. Iowa is harder to get a tag, but that is why they have great hunting for top end monster bucks. A friend of mine who bought land in Iowa told me, after a few years of hunting there, that an average or just below average hunter in the east (he was from MD) could kill a 140 buck in Iowa every year...they are that plentiful, and that lightly pressured.

As mentioned above Iowa is a draw. Actually easier to draw a gun tag than a bow tag. Right now running about 3 years to draw with the preference points. I have never hunted Ohio but have seen some monsters in the SE Corner on my way to the midwest. Iowa is my absolute favorite place to hunt when I can draw a tag. Allot of deer and huge bucks.

Ohio is cheaper and closer. Find some friends who have permission to hunt there and kiss their a--. Maybe they'll invite you.

I know of a couple guys who go to OH every year for the gun opener. Man they do good. They're really hardcore deer hunters, but the first year they hunted one got a 160"class and the other got a (upper) 140" class. All off of public land. They won't tell me which place they go too, but then again I can't blame them.
