Ok well I put the phone down for the evening to make sure I was 100% in the game.

At 6:15 I had 4 deer (3 bucks and 1 doe)walk around me and down wind of the bait pile.

Had a 30yard shot at a big doe and something went wrong.

I shot 2 ft to the right and completly missed the deer.

Came home and took a few shots to find my bow is shooting right with the broadheads.

Dead on with field tips.

WTF...

That sucks. I have been shooting for weeks now, and i shot broadheads today to make sure they were still on. I guess that is why alot people use the expandables.

I just switched to the carbon express arrows and Montec 100gr. broad heads.. the heads are not hitting anything. they are just not flying right out of the bow.

Field tips are fine.

I'll be shooting today to see what I can do to correct this mess.

I never had a major problem with mine and I'm shooting the same as you. One thing I did notice though was the first year I shot them. I had a helical on my vanes. When I lined up my broadheads with my vanes I shot them to test them out. Here everytime I let that arrow go the arrow would literally hiss the whole way to the target. Here what was going on was the air flow of the arrow. The broadhead was contradicting the air flow of the vanes since their was a helical. So I changed my vanes to straight. Problem went away.

Always shoot your hunting arrows. Fixed blades will sometimes shoot ALOT different than field tips.

I had a similar experience Monday night. I had 4 does feeding about 20 yards away. I was perfectly downwind and about 20ft up.

I Waited about 35 minutes for the right angle.

Finally drew and released. I watched the arrow fly perfectly on target for the first half of the flight.........then a gust of wind( it's been NE gusty here for the past 3 days) caught the broadhead and it rose vertically about 10" . It was just like when you see a frisbee do that..........

Luckily it went right over her back. The deer spooked for a few minites then resumed normal feeding. managed to kill the same deer with a second shot.

I am shooting tuned 100 gr muzzy's Just ordered some of the G5 strikers......as I needed new broad heads anyway after the last 2 muzzies went down. Will keep you updated as to the results.

So what was the wind doing at the time of the shot? I know alittle south of you I had some good gust yesterday afternoon...just a thought........

I think it's pretty common to have field tips and broadheads group slightly different.............I usually resight shooting broadheads only before the season................This one shot was just freaky.............

If you're shooting fixed heads, you have to re-tune/group tune your bow using them...buy 2 sets 1 to tune, the other to hunt with and spin test them all!. Or, if you don't want to go thru that kind of effort, go to mechanicals, most don't need re-tuning and there are a lot of reliable mechs on the market these days. If you like G-5, try their new Tekan 2 blade expanables. I just picked up some myself to try.

Joe its chris, great site, thanks bro. A clean miss is a clean miss, better than tossing and turning all night wondering. Take a few shot from your roof or a tree stand and figure out what happened. I have seen you shoot and dead nuts is the truth. Joe put a arrow in a arrow two weeks ago with me. At $20 bucks a arrow it was a costly shot! Joe post or pic of that arrow in a arrow. I never seen one stick like that. But joe's groups at 20 were under 1 inch. Just my advice, put all your hunting clothes on and shoot the target from up high, either your hanging on something, or your bow is not tuned on downward shots. Your markmenship is not the issue. That I am sure on.

Thanks Guys.
I've been bow hunting for 23 years and never really had this problem.

My fletching is straight. nothing is hitting but still shanking right.

I may just try a few older thunder heads just to see if it makes a difference.

If not I may have to resite for these braodheads. Although that may not help if the arrow keeps drifting right.
