I have used one for twenty years.... what do you need to know?

When I initially bought it, it was displayed on a smooth painted steel pole in the outdoor store. I climbed up in it and jumped around and it didn't budge. the seat part (is a PITA to climb with compared to others) locks the stand in, in two ways. First, you put the angled portions of the climber handles into the braces on the lower part of the stand and lean it back towards the tree. At this point you take the nylon band and wrap it around the bar on the stand base and around the bar on the climber piece and pull it tight as you can. This effectively creates a triangle (without going into all the loading, moments, etc). Next you wrap the rope around the tree and affix it to the climber piece pulling it as tight as you can (the seat has remained folded thus far). After you have tightened the rope as much as possible you fold down the seat which in effect ratchets the rope even tighter.

This stand is crazy amounts of noisy and harder to use than the new api's etc... that being said it still works and if you arent comfortable with it I will take it off your hands for parts... hahaha
