I mentioned this in another thread but felt it deserved its own.
I hunted yesterday afternoon in Zone 25 and twice heard gun shots. What's up with that? And, did anyone else hear shots?

GrtwWht. The shots I heard were in the afternoon. However, it sounds like there is more nonsense going on than I thought. I feel for you. Wait months to get out in the woods, behave like a responsible sportsman only to have your hunt ruined by knuckleheads.
And, to respond to some of the others -- not geese, skeet, crows, etc. The area in question is only open to deer hunting so all of the above are not likely. If I had to guess it was someone poaching deer with a shotgun. Two single shots about 45 minutes apart. And could hear a truck as well.
Situations like the one I heard and what GrtWht experienced only give the good guys black eyes. I think it stinks! I know I'm preaching to the choir here on Buck Barn.

:please::please::please:
Give me a break... You can only guess as to what they were about. Why the hell would you say it was poaching right off the bat?
Hey House, did you call F & G since your so sure that 2 shots means poaching?

just because you heard to gun shots doesn't mean someone was out poaching deer:thdown:

Awfully defensive guys. I've been in the woods a long time I can put 2 and 2 together -- and so can you. Don't be so simple. First day of bow season, doe only before buck, deer hanging in the yard not unreasonable... You think poaching doesn't happen, wake up.

Not saying it wasnt poaching but where you on private property if not how can you say it is deer only. You can hunt goose and crow on state land.

I've gotten banged by the moderators in the past for being too specific about locations but I can say with complete confidence that this was a deer only piece of land.
Also, I've hunted waterfowl, a lot. When, on a goose hunt, have you and your crew fired only one shell. Maybe I'm not that great a shot but there is always a lot of steel shot in the air when I've been out waterfowling.
I'm not looking to get into a big pissing match here. I only mentioned it to peek awareness. Nothing more. I realize my suspicions constitute little more than a hunch. But, it is an educated hunch. Do with that what you will. As sprotsmen, we can either keep our eyes and ears open in defense of our sport or we can turn blind eyes toward negative behavior. I've never been very good at the later.

Or you can throw your fellow hunter under the bus on a hunch. I'll say it again.. Did you call F&G?

should of called f+g.
if the land is public, it could be hunter harrasment.
if it was private land, well, if it's their land they can do as they please.
sounds like you guys need to hide your trucks. if you can't better have f+g watch what is going on one night.

If my fellow hunter is doing something wrong, then yes. And, yes.
