Bubba,
My first grouse dog was a beagle. Problem with the breed is that they are very stubburn. The good thing about the breed is they are very stubburn and will not leave a track. As far as retrieves, they will until their nose finds something else they are interested in. I breed, train, hunt and guide with German Shorthairs now. More receptive and egar to please. hope this helps.

Yes, but why? Your probably looking at alot of work to accomplish that. I've heard of beagles that retrieve, but it isn't the norm.
Beagles hunt for themselves
Flushing/Pointing dogs, hunt for you.

I had two beagles, they both passed on these past two years. One was 14 and the other was 15 years old. They are the most stubborn dogs I ever tried to train. My labs were the easiest. I trained the beagles to rabbit hunt but they would run forever and never understood the word COME. That said, they were the most lovable dogs a man would ever want to have and I miss them alot. I think the breed would be hard to train as a retriever.
