Had some grouping issues last week on my Xcalliber Vortex- at best my 30 yard groups were 4" off of a solid rest, which was ticking me off. Shooting Easton powerbolts I fletched up with 5" straight vanes, and tried wasp 100's , slick trick 100's and rocket aerohead ultimate steel 100's , all showed poor groups. Talked to a good friend who had this problem last year and grabbed one of his bolts ( same powerbolt) fletched up with 4" and a slight helical, not enough to cause a problem travelling down the rail. Very quickly , I was shooting all of the above broadheads into the bull at 30 yards , right there with my field points. Needless to say, tonight I started stripping all of my bolts to prepare them to be re-fetched. Those straight fletch vanes just didn't get that bolt spinning enough to stabilize the flight, helicals did the trick.
Now shooting both the Bowtec and the crossbow awesome, ready for a few warm up does in 10 days :D

I use the small 2" vanes and have no problems even out to 50yards

My brother has been shooting his crossbow with 125 grain field points. Yesterday, he installled slick trick standard 125 grain broadheads. They were right on shooting exactly like the field points. He has very tight groups up to 35 yards using the standard 3" vanes. 35 yards is the max range for his stand. He's good to go for Sat's opener. Good luck to all!

i acn honesly tell ya that a 5 in or 4in extreme helical will pull that broad head right where ya want it even with regular tackle (compound) its amazing what ya can learn by playing with a bitzen burger, enen with big fixed blades

I do all of my own fletching and can not leave an arrow alone with factory fletching. I used to refletch with 5 in feathers and found that my 10 point liked 4 in better and shot better. I believe that it has to do with the speed of the bolt and the longer feathers.
