Guys

I completed the southern class on Sunday, made my first snare and will be getting my license. The sample sets Ron made up the day before had two cats, a opossum and a skunk in them in about 18 hours.

I was also surprised by the low number of trappers in Jersey, but gratified by their dedication to fur harvesting.

I intend to use CB caps, but the ones I have are on the long rifle case. Where can I pick up CB's on the short case so I can stay out of trouble with Fish & Game?

I'm going to the meet next Sunday at Atsion, but I'll be late; I have to usher at 11:15. Like most outdoor pursuits, trapping is going to require a lot of 'stuff' to get me started! (Anybody want to buy my Buick so I can acquire a truck?)

Thanks for the information I picked up from this forum via your contributions, it was invaluable. Perhaps one of you will be kind enough to take me under your wing and show me how it's really done in the real world. No amount of reading can accomplish that.

Speaking of reading, what books would you suggest on snaring and fur preparation?

Thanks guys!

if your going to the show, see newt.
take $30 and buy his master raccoon snaring video.
it will walk you through making snares, set locations, ect.. it doesn't cover putting up fur.
you may get a cheap book on put up.
check out the snareshop.com, and snareone.com
they will have lots of snare parts and books for you to learn from.
get on a few other trapping forums. email me, i will give you the links to them, don't want to put up other forum links on here.
i would think any of your gun stores would have shorts.

LOL, Keep rolling them quarters and dimes....damn near need a water jug worth!

I got the book a couple weeks back. It definitely helped picturing it. I gotta get back to that one spot with the creek and take another look. Once you see the pics in the book, you see the set on lots of waterways. Once you accept you're looking to cath them while they're hunting vrs travelling it makes good sense. Maybe tomorrow in between kids stuff and trick r treatin I'll check one of the water spots again.

Kinda rushing now. finishing boards and snares in the next couple weeks. Dont plan on starting on any canines until December, so I got a little time.

Hey redneck does your boy compete in the pennsylvania high shool rodeo association.

redneck

No because jersey does not have a HRA. He competed in the Central Pa Youth Rodeo Assoc. goes from 5 to 19 age groups. this was his last year there he competed in tie down, team roping, break away and bull doggin. He didn't bull ride. had kids from PA, NJ, Del, MD mostly. a lot of the kids in pa high school was competing with him there.

he started to compete at cowtown at 18 and won tie down one time that year on TV LOL last season at cow town he was 400 short for the finals he was going to rope NY for the 400 but decide he wanted to hunt and trap this year so next spring he will be right back into it in the first frontier circuit said he may go for broncs I hope not. I wish I could sit a saddle like he can.
