Just to satisfy my curiosity what would you want has a deer hunter on your land or just the land you hunt on most. Please feel free to emphasize and add.

I chose more deer because I hunt public wma and the herds are hurting with all the unlimted does. I hunt for meat not for heads.

Healthier deer = better bucks because of better habitat:thup:But you already know that Adam!!!

Get to the heart of it!!!! You could eliminate all but two of those categories, but I think I know where you're goin!

I chose more deer...

Where I hunt the deer habitat is great and bigger bucks are clearly showing up each year.

All valid points. Every hunters place has a different story. Just wanted to see which one might be the most valued.

I vote for more deer. I'm taling about PA, specifically WMA 2G. You left out one important choice: "no doe hunting"!!!!!!!!!!!

My Vote was for more Deer especially in the non Special reg areas!
I would like to see the Days of a few years ago when i would see 20
to 30 Deer in a day, not 3 or 4! Like in WMU 3-D and 3-C!

I say let the results come in, let PA Game manage the herd from that. I enjoy seeing deer also, but I would love to see our herd in the north more like those of Maine,BC and Sask. I'm tired of hearing the guys I want to see 30 deer. The land can not support them! I'm sure these guys want the to be able to shoot spikers again! I understand the importance of killing deer, but if the herd is suffering because of overpopulation then take them. If not curb the doe kill. People need to look at the science that our bucks are not as big because of genetics and lack of nutrition. Nutrition? you know when the herd is too big and you are seeing 30 deer in a day over a square mile and nothing but spikes. Reduce the herd 4 deer per square mile, increase the nutrution for those animals, with an antler restriction and you have a healthy herd with large bucks. Makes sense to me. I believe the only one on the posts that have a wildlife background in wildlife biology is ACEARCHER. If you need more deer come down to Chester County and kill some of them, so we don't have as many. No offense Wadd, you know you are my boy!
Just my two cents.

Wadd,
You have to move in the woods to see 10 deer a day. Not sit in a tree stand or sit on a stump. Nice!

I thought everybody wanted bigger bucks but I gues Im in the minority. Id like to see all of PA go 8 point or better even if it meens thinning out the does some more. The deer management areas need to be a lot smaller to address the big variations in habitat and deer populations.

AR was done to get older age classes. Western Pa having 4 to a side is because of the quality of the deer heard and the habitat that supports it. Versus the rest of the state. Making the AR to something like 8 pts together would be more of a trophy management strategy. Something that the PGC has never before done. I've heard of a few clubs that own A LOT of acrage doing it. It works, but you just have to get everyone on the same playing field.

I think the AR are just fine the way they are. I have seen a vast difference in the maturity and the class of deer on state lands. More rack bucks have been taken inthe mountain regions that I hunt. I don't know about the other counties, but Wyoming, Sullivian and Luzerne Counties have been producing some monsters as compared to the old days.

My camp is in the big woods section of WMU 2G. AR has resulted in some bigger bucks being taken. However, our camp was established in 1968 when there were a lot of deer, some big bucks and lots of smaller bucks. I have to say that we had a lot more fun when we saw a lot of deer and could shoot spikes, Y's etc. We travel 6 hours to get to camp and some of the guys only get to hunt 2 or 3 days. We have never shot a doe but do not oppose a 2 day doe season. The concurrent doe season has really hurt our hunting. I voted for more deer because a lot of our guys haven't seen a deer for the last 3 or 4 years. For a good number of years, we took 7-10 bucks per year and we always had a lot of fun celebrating and recounting our kills. Now, we sit around and talk about hunting from dawn to dusk and not seeing a deer. Apparently, the PGC realizes they reduced the herd excessively and reduced the concurrent doe season by 5 days. Last year, this did not help in that almost the same number of does were taken as the previous year. We have plenty of good habitat what with a lot of clear cutting in the last 10-12 years. I agree with the barner who proposed smaller WMU's to better manage the herd. I hope everyone has a good year in the woods.

That study has nothing to do with the deer population being down.

“Although many believe a shorter season may reduce the antlerless harvest, it is important to remember that the antlerless harvest is the method of meeting the population objective for a WMU and can be adjusted with the antlerless allocation,” Rosenberry said. “If fewer deer are being harvested and the population objective is not being met, then we would recommend an increase in the allocation to achieve the proper antlerless harvest.”

“The research will address biological and social aspects of the shortened antlerless season in the four WMUs,” Rosenberry said. “The study will seek to answer several questions, including: will hunters see more deer; and will the shorter antlerless season allow deer population objectives to be met?

Then shoot does for meat. They taste way better anyway. Leave the bucks to grow up for me. Isnt Phila, Bucks, and Delaware county unlimited on the doe tags?

more bucks and less does so i guess bigger bucks? im in zone 49 and there are a few big smart back yard bucks but there is no 3 point law. i would love it if they passed a 3 point law in 49! also why does 49s gun season go straight to the middle of february? its just to long

More area to hunt,to many houses going up. Sheet, was I talking out loud? Deer 10 minutes from the house, but little Johnny might get hurt if you go back there with your pointy arrows.
A week later....I hit a deer with my 89,000 dollar car and almost died.
We need birth control for deer. That will fix it.
