Anyone ever try it ? It doesn't look to be much of a challenge. Something about them though.... And they are good eating for sure.

One of my hunting buddies did. 2 years ago, we were going to Colorado to hunt elk. I flew into Denver. The plan was for him to meet me at the airport in Denver. He was driving out because he had to pick up some meat in Wyoming from an Antelope hunt that he had a few week prior. Anyway, he got out there early and decided to hunt buffalo. He thought it was really cool but it didn't sound so cool to me. They drove around in a pickup truck. He spotted a large buffalo which he was told was a shooter. The guide said it was way too dangerous to get out of the truck. They would shoot out the window. First, they had to separate it from the herd. This was accomplished by driving around with the truck and steering it away from the other buffalo. Then, my friend was instructed to shoot it behind the ear, which he did. One shot from his 7mm mag and down it went. Not much of a hunt if you ask me. The meat was very good. You don't need a hunting license to do this. I suppose they are considered to be like cattle, which it sounds like shooting to me. To each his own.

I did hear of one hunt out west that was more like, stalking like the american indians. Sounded like most guys did it with the traditional guns, 45-70's, flints with .50cals, or bows(traditional). Couldn't imagine trying to get to 20 or 30 yards from a pissed off Bison and shooting him with a sharp stick! Don't know if the hunt is good but, I know the meat tastes really good.

If you want to capture something from the Old West the buffalo is it.
The hunt is whatever you want to make it. Yes they are not wary animals.
Yeah you could go on a truck hunt or whatever way you chose.
I hunted them years ago in Montana- A horseback hunt, then a stalk on foot.
First had to squeeze in past a herd of pronghorns. Crawled to 60 yards without none of the bison herd seeing me. 60 yards from animals weighing 1200 lbs that could stampede you and kill you with a 243 will get the your heart pumping, if it doesn't then you're not breathing or alive anyway.
There's so much that makes up the total hunt experience, not just killing the animal. Traveling, see the Plains, the distant Rockies, meet new and nice people, it's a different world out west. Be like a sponge and absorb it all in!
Again they are not wary animals, appear to be very docile, (just like most of the Indians were hundreds of years ago) but they are wild animals which anything could happen.
Yes the meat is good tasting and naturally good. The Indians practicly worshiped the buffalo. They lived for hundreds of years eating buffalo. That is why our good ole' government came to the conclusion if we kill off all the buffalo the Indians will be forced to go reservations or starve!!! What a disgrace for such an animal. 'Nuff said.
Plus my buffalo full shoulder mount hanging in the trophy room looks great and goes along with my arctic buffalo- the muskox . But that's another story.

Well said Ron,
Muskox! wow you got sack to sitting in the artic to hunt them. I think I would like the horse back hunt. I think I'll look into it with a pronghorn hunt. How much did the hunt cost, if you don't mind me asking.
