I'm in Bucks Co. and don't have many coyotes around. Their are a few here and there, but not much of a trapable or huntable population. I was thinking about this upcoming season though. I thought maybe if I make my dirt holes early this year. Say early October. I keep baiting them. I set a trail cam up to see whats coming into it. If I can get a coyote to keep consistently coming to the dirt hole for a free meal one day I put the steel out and well I'll have a coyote. Maybe if I can get them to include checking the dirt hole in their pattern I will have a better chance. With the trail cam there I'lll know when and how much they visit the hole. So what do some of the more experienced coyote trappers think?

I do know that they are at my spot. I went out on our first snow fall to try and cut tracks. I did and several sets. So I know they are here. Unfortunitly with all the freezing conditions we had last year it made it very tough to keep the freezing rain off the traps.

I trap in bucks county, I think the best way to go is with snares, you can make the loop bigger and place the loop higher off the ground to be very species selective, this way you will miss most (not all)foxes.,the trail cam is a good idea if you have alot of time to invest.good luck

the restraint laws you guys have suck. you have more chew outs then guys running real snares. IMOA your better off with steel till the ground freezes. i'm running 10" loop 10" high. with that loop they still get hip caught and seat belts. anything smaller and you will have more refusals. they don't like the heavy fencing required for a smaller loop.
i think your coyotes are much like ours. they have a 10 day to three week loop they are running. you just have to keep the sets up and running, for that one or two days they are at your sets. you will have one shot at them, if you scare them, thats it till the next loop comes around. our problem is keeping the deer out of the sets. they push down the snares almost every night. when you have 40 deer per square mile, it's a pain. but the dogs run the same trails. part of the game.
i have had no help with bait. my sets that have hit have been blind trail sets.
