Walked the perimeter of the one fenced in place after two roosters doa yesterday. Found a 'homerun' trail. Fence undercut with a path of guinea hen feathers leading out no wider than a foot. Farmer just called and told me it connected. He's pretty damn happy....me, not so much. didnt really want any part until the season, but he has a legitimate predation issued with this fox. First canine, and a chicken killer to boot.;) One night soak...

thats great. was the red alive on the snare?
you now have that farm till that guy dies.
extention on snare, or stake? what was your set up?

Red was still alive and waitin' patiently. Farmer dispatched before i got there. Washer lock has managed to dispatch a couple hogs, but not the red.

Nothin terribly fancy UB. I was there movin hog snares and the owner pointed out the dead roosters, so I moved one to the trail. Pushed rebar next to the trail and extended 12 gauge wire into the "s" for support. No wammie on that particular snare I had left, but it was a pretty good firing snare. Intertwined some vine around the suport and along the loop for concealment...it looked good and I was pretty confident. Ran an 8 foot extension to the fence post and had great entanglement. He made it under the fence, but wasnt goin anywhere after the entanglement.

The reason:

The location including feathers!

The results (neck shot) and a scenery shot!

Placed an order with Newt last night. Gonnna try some 1x19 and a couple slim locks and see how I like those combos on the hogs. One more red there killin birds...completely bald tail and then another at a diferent spot North of me. That one has killed the last of the owner's free range birds and is now picking off the neighbor's birds. Maybe next week there, we'll see. I want pics of damage before I set on another canine. I dont want to set on them, but I guess I will if the damage is obvious.

Farmer just texted me a pic of a huge hog tonight. Snared him IN the barn. Not too bad with only five snares out over there. They were all on hogs until the red. Owner had seen him running through the bay doorways and under euipment and pallets. Got him today too!! UB, would it be worth removing glands on them??

i save the hog glands and give them to rednecks pride scents. i give ron all my glands. we work out the trade some were down the road. if you save them and freeze them fresh, i'm sure redneck would turn them into a turkey call, duck call, goose call, or some coon baits. you could also save the red glands.
i was wondering how you were gona run your snares, extentions or rebar. your driving rebar then twisting the support wire on that? our soil is different.:D
you have a perfect craw under right there. perfect location. neck snared your first k9! doesn't look hip caught. must of guessed the hight and opening right.
newt makes nice snares. let me know what you think of the stiffer wire. i was thinking of going to it for coyotes, after i burn up the 300 i have made. i'm thinking less chew outs. but the last one i had chewed the 3/32 extention off. it took the whole 12' set up.
sounds like you found your new passion. it's a lot of fun and work. but it gives you a reason to stay out there after deer is over.
i picked up two farms tonight, one small, one larger, same owner. at all places, my girls dance class tonight. woman had to chase a red off of the chicken. the red was carrying it across the yard. i'm getting land to trap and half a dozen chickens for my place. they are tick patrol and fox bait.:D
i'm hitting the first fowl job this weekend. i'll get pictures if it's not raining.

Yeah UB, I'm pushin rebar for now, but just for a support, not an anchor. I'm running extensions on all the snares to a tree or fence post. The huge hog I got tonight was actually anchored to a loaded pallet inside the barn and I ran the 12 gauge support wire off a small piece of rolled up chicken wire in a corner near an open staircase. He was coming from near there and I was able to lock the 12 gauge into the rolled wire to make a pretty good support.

just ordered the cable and locks from Newt. I kinda have enjoyed making my own snares after annealing the nuts and wrapping my own swivels out of the 12 gauge with a jig I made. So far, so good.

Here's a couple pics of fat a$$ the farmer frowarded me tonight. Hip caught the hog...still gotta work on that with the hogs. This hog was so damn big, he repeatedly triggered a box trap and the door would come down on his back and he could back out. Farmer said this guy did that three or four times in the past week.

i like making my own snares too. that way they are just what suits you.
nice job on the hogs.
keep this up and the farmer will be telling other farmers about you. you'll get some good land.

LOL, Gonna be ALOT of guessing going on! Hopefully slightly less guessing after my summer of waging personal warfare against the whistle pigs!!:D Nothin like a herd of Hogs to piss off any farmer in the state!

My short term goal is to be remembered in the whistle pig folklore as the 'midnight strangler'!!

perhaps the 'midday strangler' is more appropriate............

you could be known for many other things, 'midday strangler' isn't that bad.
i should be set this weekend on the new farm. hope i can help the guy out.

Hope you realize there is another one out there. Got to hunt (kill chickens) even more to feed them pups now that one of the adults is gone.

Hope you realize there is another one out there..

There's more than one more other there. One with a bald tail is also around the fowl quite a bit, but I'm hoping that taking this one puts a slow down on the killin of the guy's birds. I'd love to hold off till December and I'm not gonna set again unless more birds start showing up dead.

if that mangey one is the female, that litter is toast. i would try and get the mangey one, before it's causes a outbreak, and you lose your reds for trapping season.

ya think?? I was hoping the bare tail was more a seasonal thing, but the others I'm seeing and getting pics of dont have it I guess. Farmer will shoot him on sight too....I dont know. Guess you can tell I really dont want to set on them right now.

Got my order of cable today....good thing, Hog Strangler struck again....:D Down to 2 snares. Owner lost a duck last night, but definitly coon that reached through the coup fencing.

UB, did you use a loop on the end when connecting the slimlock?? I couldnt recall if you did or kinked the cable back against the natural curve and left it on the main between the "kink" and a stop... my terminology sucks, but I think you'll know what I mean..

i make the backwards 180 bend. then a end stop.
same for the bmi mini, micro and slim.
if you only make a 90 bend the loop will have a little tension against the lock. it will hold the lock at a angle. if you 180 the cable the lock should hang free.
take the loading slow. if you pull against the round rod too much your be making slinkies.
