Well after two seasons of trying to kill a Tom with a bow without the aid of a blind its done
Thurs. had a slammer at 8yds and got busted. But finally it all clicked.
First light set up on field edge hoping they would be there. No gobbles, got lighter so we started soft calling. Hen calls back from behind us,still no gobbles. We chat with the hens and the fly down cackle induces a gobble from about 150 yrds down the field. OK so one is still here.
We work the hens into range,to close 10 yards. I can't see him and he isn't talking but I can hear him spitting. He comes into view and hangs up at 20 yrds. We shut down the calling and let the hens move off,now he wants to go so he dips his head into the grass and I come to full draw and he has no idea. He raises his head and takes a 100 grain Montec through the chest. After 40 mins of kneeling and not moving I jump up and grab him as he makes a get away attempt.
Upon inspection the bird is a double bearder:D (My second one over the years)
Beards 10" and 6" .....Spurs 1-1/8
