I am looking for anybody in WMU 5C that would like a companion to Turkey Hunt with.
I have never been turkey hunting, but would like the experience. Really don't want to go by myself.
Only drawback is that I don't have a shotgun to use. ( May be getting one the begining of May).
If no offers, can I get some advice on what type of shotgun ( if any) can be use to hunt Turkey, Ducks, and Deer in PA.

the benelli nova is 1 of the best all around guns. 3 1/2 inch chamber, three shots, can get it in camo, the only thing holding it down for ducks is its a pump

I agree with bird, benelli nova is the well..best bang for your buck or in this case a gobbler. theyre affordable (mine was like $350 new),synthetic stock, can put up to all the punishment a hunt can give it. My nova is my all around gun, use it for everything from bunnies to black bears. Holds an excellent pattern to. I normally use federal vital shok, that seems to be pretty good medicine for them longbeards. camo is really nice looking to. hope to post gobbler pics today.

i would go with a remington 870 express i think they go for 300 or so ... its been around forever it has the reputaion of being the most reliable gun ever made... and its AMERICAN MADE!

My first gun was a remington 870 express mag and i would agree its a good starter. Very easy to clean, check out this site to see theres very few parts to them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkPJHzw4PXg&feature=related

i collect shotguns and use them all for hunting ...i own two 870s one is a 16 gauge from the mid 70s never had a problem its a rabbit killin machine ...i bought it from an older man who only owned that gun it was used and abused (i got it for a great price and refinished it)...it still works great... my other is a 20 guage wingmaster its the gun i use when the weather is bad or im in thick or rugged terrain, because i know it wont fail ... i also use it when i get mad at my other guns because i cant hit anything ... it shoots the best too! my dad owns a 12 gauge and a 28 gauge 870 you cant go wrong with a remington! the wingmaster is a bit over priced for a pump these days but an 870 express is same exact gun just different finish ... about 300 or so... im not putting them benellis down i dont know much about them other than they arnt the prettiest gun on the shelf

OK,
NOw, I know that the PGC rules say either.410 or 20 gauge for Deer, but can you shoot turkeys and ducks with a 20 gauge,or does it just depend on the load used?

i have killed many ducks with a 20 thats no problem... as for turkey it will work you have almost the same energy just not as much lead (or whatever your using) i would make sure they are within 30 yards... ive shot geese as well with my 20... (didnt take it purposly goose hunting it just happened on a duck hunt)

In my opinion would be for you to use a 12ga., I seen on your profile that you are 45yo so kick should be no problem. Where abouts in PA are you located? How long have you been retired from the Navy? If not to far from me i have a old used and abused Remington express 12ga that has been sitting in my gun cabinet for a few years that if we could work out the transfer from me to you and you can pick it up i will give it to you for free as a token of my appreciation for your service and to help out a fellow hunter and sailor, again it has been used and abused (needs to be reblued and a new butt plate)but still shoots so it's up to you.
You can call me on my cell @609-374-1495 or email @ jim_thompson2000@yahoo.com
Also if anyone can give info on the transfer of a gun to PA.

From what I can determine, we would need to go thru an FFL in NJ.

If your looking for a turkey hunting buddy in 5C I might be able to help. Send me an e-mail.
I'd look into either a Mossberg 500 or 835. The 500 will ONLY take 2 3/4" and 3" shells. The 835 will take 2 3/4", 3", 3 1/2" shells. For someone starting out and on a budget I'd recommend the 500. Their is a slight difference in power between the 3" shell and the 3 1/2" shell, but you'll have a lot more shot in a 3 1/2" shell.

if your on a budget forget the 3 and 1/2 they cost a bit more... you dont need it anyway people used 3 in for years they do just fine..... but if you can afford it ... it makes your gun that much more versitile

Just wanted to give a big thanks to Broadhead. He gave me a Remington 870 Express 12ga that he had sitting in his gun cabinet. Like he said it is not pretty, but I did clean it up today, and blued it myself with stuff I got at Dick's.
It now looks decent. I am very happy with this acquisition. Thank you very very much. There are some decent human beings in this world.
