Grab em by the base of head at the neck and twirl..always did the trick.
Youre near me Robbo...what zone permit did you get...I might be able to give you a hand if you need it.
I pretty much gave up the birdies. I was really hooked on em a few years back both in zone 10 and I would get Pa license just for the birds. Took 3 birds a year for quite a few years in a row back then, then a few with the bow before I gave it up.

Mudmarlin, I got a zone 7 permit. I live in Rockaway. I am new to hunting so I may have a lot of questions for you. Specifically locating a nd scouting

The boy is doing better these days, so I may be able to get out a little. I dont really have the strongest desire to go for them myself anymore for some reason. Getting up that early for a bird I dont really crave for eating has gotten tough, but I cant deny how fun it is!
I'll have to take a look at the zone map for 7. Not too familiar with anything up that way. But if you're willing to drive about twenty minutes from the hospital in the other direction, I could probably show you a few things without compromising where you hunt. You dont want to burn the birds out where you're gonna hunt them. Let me know what weeks you drew permits for and what days work for you during the week normally.

Just like mudmarlin says, it works everytime.
Or let the gobbler come closer next time so you can get more pellets in the head.

I'm very glad to hear your son is doing better. I got the saturday pick on the permit, but I'm done at 3:30 at the hospital. I'm pretty open, would just have to check if my wife has anything on the calendar

Ok then..When is the first Saturday of the season?? If you get out at the hospital at 330, we could get together one day after that....I'll show you some roosting area characteristics and how to 'put one up' the night before you're gonna hunt.

i can tell you a limb saw works great. but keep all the fingers out of the way. i cut myself real good one time. :D
i also had to use one of those telescoping tree limb trimmers before.
they're just like the gobbler guilotines.

Robbo, I'll start keeping an eye on the weather for a nice afternoon.
I'll show you what I can then. Then if it works out timewise and if you're interested maybe you can meet me South of the hospital one morning for a dry run. Wear full camo and all...just no weapon. We could see if we get a couple to come in and pose for the camera....I have a couple of really good places for that. Our numbers are down some around here due to all the canines, but unless I've really slipped in the past couple years we could probably have a successful "hunt" or two to give you a feel for doing it.
Or maybe we'll try a place or two a buddy of mine does actually hunt!!!! He's gotten too good at it....birds could use a bit of an education before the season!! Level the playing field a bit!!!!

Robbo,
63 and sunny tomorrow, unfortunately I'm working tomorrow night!
Does Monday or Tuesday work for you after work??? Headed South for the trapping cert this weekend in the rain, but so far those days look ok. Maybe a bit cool for them to sound off in the pm, but we could accomplish how to find them and the roosting areas...let me know.
