how common are they
saw a roadkill fisher on my way to the river, didn't know what it was at first,never saw one around here

they are moving south from new york. pa has been getting them the last 10 years. new jersey has a few. a guy working with f+g has a bunch of trail cams of them. there is a study going on.
go get the road kill and freeze it. call fish and game. andy burnett would probably want it, he's the furbearer biologist for the state.

Definately call Andy he will want to inspect it.Just tell him where he can find it.He just helped add the Fisher to the NJ Furbearers list this year.,HRL:)

just read the article in the hunting digest about them ,we have seen them around our property in upstate new york,the fisher wasn't there on the way home was going to stop and check it out, gonna fill out the reporting form on the web site

had a tough time trying to figure out how to report it online but found a contact # for andy burnett , going to call tomorrow morning,after a doing a better check for it again in the morning

they have been up north jersey in the mountain region for a while.

Sounds like you saw a large Buck Mink dead on the road.I am pretty sure there arent any Fishers in South Jersey,HRL;)

was it chocolate colored with a white chin?
does sound like a mink

it was reddish chocolate ,with black tipped tail, black feet , about 18" long body, 4"-6" tail, from shoulders to nose was completely mush, and mangled

with a tail that short it sounds more like a mink than a fisher....

sounds minky.
18" long body is a mink. some fishers are are big like otter.
after work i'll try and get some id pictures up here for everyone.

googled some pictures ,definately was a mink , i thought mink were smaller ,looked just like what we were told were fishers in new york now i'm thinking they were mink too

fishers are not very common to see...... ive only seen one i would guess it was about 2 feet long and had a long tail.... looked like a small panther when i seen it

They relocated a bunch up where I hunt, upstate. The Game commission used to drop in roadkill for them to eat. A couple have been trapped up there also. They are freakin big!!!!!

fishers where nearly gone in the US, we brought them back to control Porky pine populations (in brief).... They go about killing porkies differnt than you may think... most people assume they get underneath them and get them by the belly... not true....they bite at their face till they bleed to death... just a bit about fishers thought id share .... thats all i know about them and that they are not very common
