I lost my Lab Hailey last week, she was 18 months old. For whatever reason the stars aligned and she got hit and killed by a vehicle. It was a very strange string of events. The kind that make you just shake your head.

She will be missed badly. If you guys know what I'm saying, the first year or so can be long, with training and discipline. She was getting into that great period where she starts to know what your thinking.

Anyway, I'm looking for a new puppy. I'm looking at 2 litters. Both have plenty of field champions in them. These 2 litters are very similar in size and temperment. Both owners are breeding for themselves to keep bloodlines going, not professional breeders.

Litter 1. Dam stopped taking care of the pups, so they are now bottle fed. Both parents have all certs, with the bitch a carrier for eic and cnm. I don't get to pick the female and would most likely get the smallest pup.

Litter 2. Bitch has no certs at all, the owner is a very well know trainer. He is in the process of getting everything but will not get results for 2 months after I get the pup. They have not tested the line for many generations, as they only have pups every 5-7 years.
The sire has hip cert, but he has failed to send over any other info on eic or cnm.

I know what I'm thinking, but I wanted other opinions.

Should any of these be a major concern?

Thanks guys.

I wouldn't mess with dogs that haven't had a full set of health screenings no matter how supposedly "well known" the trainer is.

Sorry for you'r loss.Don't rush into a new pup to help get over you'r last one.If certs are a major issue don't buy a pup without them.we had two black labs got both from A W A in vorhees had the second one for 17 years great dog.he could not wait to get the paper every morning. No traning just opened the door one morning and said go get that paper, that was his job.

first...sorry for your loss....I know what you're feeling.....I've been
through it twice with two young labs I was training and running in
field trials......you really get close to them when you are training
them every day..........As to a new pup I'd take my time and do
more looking around.....It sounds like you want a female and you have only the last choice from the 1st litter.......AND.....the owner of the
2nd litter doesn't seem to want to give you any advance info....
I realize that even with pedigree, certs, etc. there are no guarantees
but they sure are better than going blind into a hopefully 12-14 year
investment of your time and energy, not to mention a considerable
amount of moo-lah........whatever you decide good luck with your
future pup.....
ps.....I sure do like female labs......easy to train.....they really want
to please.
