Besides just walking trails and around piles, does anyone around here build troughs to "catch" sheds? I've seen pictures, but just wondering if anyone has done it, and if it worked?

i cant wait to start shed hunting agan. i was going to try chicken wire at a right angle, with feed or a lick in the corner, but haven't done it yet, and at this point probly won't. i like the searching part too.
good luck

A friend of mine uses a big plastic tub with bungees strechted acrossed the top and corn in the bottom. the deer can get their heads in and out, but if their antlers are ready to come off they will get knocked off into the tub. He got some nice sheds that way.

I was gonna use Backyards idea but on a smaller scale. Half bury a 5gal bucket with corn. Dont need bungees and dont have to dig as deep in the frozen ground!

I like finding sheds as much as the next guy, but is it really necessary to knock these sheds off bucks? I'm sure I might take some heat for this but oh well. I guess it's one thing if your doing it to track deer through the years so you have a record of them. I imagine thats why you guys are intentionally doin this, right?

I've found several matched sets in bedding areas. I've also found them along trails and in fields but I've found the most in bedding areas. In PA it is illeagal to make feeders with wires strings or bungees to help knock the antlers off. I don't know about NJ.

I know people that find nice sheds every year consistently. They do shed drives. They all just line up and walk like a drive, but they're just combing the woods for sheds. Thats the only time I've heard of people doing well with shed hunting.

put any left over corn under a log in a travel corridor, the bucks will try to push the log and maybe leave a set for ya, horns that is ................

Ive been baiting a spot in zone 49. The deer are hitting it hard at night. havent seen a deer in the day yet. They have been kicking the crap out each other. Ive found hair all over my bait and they even nocked a horn off of one of them. See, just let them do all the work. ha ha.
