Got out twice this week, on Monday there was only two of us and we managed five rabbits in under 2 hours. Its was a great day with some really nice shots over 40 yds. Yesterday, there was 3 of us. The wind was howling and the ground was frozen so it made tracking the rabbits hard for the dogs. We still managed to get 6. So far this is one of our best seasons. In under 10 trips we have shot 50+ rabbits. My personal total so far is 17.

That's the best , hunting with a couple of friends and workin the field together and stopping for lunch after a long walk and a few rabbits each . Those days are few and far between anymore . Glad to see you did well .

dod always had lots of rabbits, mannington meadows is also loaded. when the dogs run in them reeds they can really travel, tough on the dogs but great runs. as for starting a pup, find a small piece near houses that is to close to hunt . this way there are lots of rabbits to help your dog start on, try and get him to see them close up and then put him on the sent. another way is start him out with another dog which is not very fast and he should run with them and learn. best bet is find a beagle guy that has a fenced in breaking pen with rabbits in there. some pups are ready in a mtter of hours as others may take a few days. good luck and enjoy the time with your pup and be patient, it will take alot of time on your part to break him alone but is very rewarding at the end! bb

Hey BigWalt, maybe you could run your dog with other dogs that are already hunting. I have a good friend, Ed, and we are going out this weekend. Shoot me an E-Mail and maybe you can come along. Bring Coffee.....

My first day out for bunnys this year not counting the few days out for pheasants. The snow was hard frozen in Plumsteadville Pa and the wind was brisk. My good freind Bernie who does not get out much and I decided to get a day in the hedge rows for some fun.
First 5 min we push one out and I put that one in the bag had a nice walk to the next wild feild and the area was so big I saw a few running but to far and fast for a shot. Circled around to come up the other side were I saw one run worked it to almost the end. I stopped Bernie and walked to the end to see if I could push one back to him. I called it, walked into the hedgerow and a rabbit jumps out and stops. nice head shot. 2 rabbits in a half an hour, We walked several more spots, lots of sign but we could not get them up.
Nice day, 2 shots 2 bunnies we had fun. Gonna try to get out at least these last 2 Saturdays before all the guns have to put away.

So you think Ed's not really a Doctor? I better not mention the hemorrhoid checks then I guess.

I know of one good place in Salem Co. it's call WMA Gumtree Corner. Check out NJ F&G Wildlife site for directions. The location is in Lower Alloways Creek.

i remember i rabbit hunted with that guy Ed and things got wierd quick. he killed a rabbit and he asked me if i wanted to play magician. i was hesitant at first, but then i figured, "what the heck!" To my surprise, he pulled the rabbit out of "something," but it sure wasn't his hat!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I seen him the other day with a guy that was about seven feet tall and he kept calling him "Meat". Hope he didn't try to violate that guy, he was a beast! I heard that Meat guy once bit the head off a live marshmallow rabbit!

Yeah... I know that guy meat, he's pretty bad-ass. On the other hand I think you guys are getting a little out of control with this stuff.
I am going hunting with Dr. Ed tomorrow, I'll log on and let youk know how I make out!
Wish me luck!!!!!!!!!

A wise man once told me, "Rabbit hunting is kind of like fishing". I can't remember who the wise man was.....
