I shot 3 and my dad shot 2. I shot 2 bucks 7 and 8 pointers and a doe. My dad shot 2 does. The main property that we hunt there is alot of does compared to the number of bucks we have shot 3 bucks and 9 does. Shot one on saturday off of a little push and saw around 12 other does no bucks though. The doe will most likely be a little over 100 pounds.

1 10.5 yr old bruiser with 13 scoreable pts out of 16 total. Passed on some good bucks before i took the Senior. 1 good buck a year is plenty of meat for me. I like deer meat, but i like a lot of other foods too and I love hunting, so the more I let walk the better my hunting will be. If i don't get the mature buck I'm looking for each year by winter bow, i'll go after a doe with the bow for meat. I'd never take a small buck for meat, and don't like having to take a doe either as (1) that means I didn't get the mature buck I coveted (2) taking a doe is taking 3 deer in reality.

MattG,
You dont like killing does? I just want to be sure thats what you said. We all should know that the key to a healthy herd is reducing the doe population. Although the state F&G is taking that way too far with the allowance of all these shotgun either sex days. I took my buck to the butchers last month. Out of the 50 deer in the cooler two were bucks. I dont know many pieces of state land that can sustain that kind of kill throughout the doe days. Thats just individuals and a few small clubs. That doesnt account for the amount of clubs that hit the Jersey woods with 100 members several times during the weeks. There isnt gonna be any deer left in the forests, just in the developements between houses unless they start breaking these residential zones away from the state game land zones.

Revclimber, it's like you said but in PA alot of does taken around us since they made the 2 week rifle season buck & doe, so I don't shoot em often. Plus, with the 1 buck limit a season whether bow, gun or ML I wait for the 1 I want or pass. Is the doe to buck ratio still a little out of whack? Probably, but am I seeing a problem with the health of the deer herd do to it? No, so thats what I choose, keep more deer around and hunt for the big one. If I don't score, there's always Mcdonalds for my meat :)

Its been a great season for me I got to hunt a lot with my 12 year old son. He has been sitting in stands and hunting with me since he was 6 but this was his first year to really hunt now that he passed his hunter ed course. He's killed 8 deer this season. 3 doe with the X-bow, then a nice high racked 7 pt with the X-bow, then 2 doe upstate with his .243 and 2 doe with a 20 guage slug. I never had a better season and not even bexcause of all the deer - I spent a lot of time with him and watched him get better as the season wore on.
I ended up getting a doe with the bow and a nice solid 8 pt with the bow and 1 doe with the rifle and 2 doe with the shotgun.
The freezer is full and several of the farmers were happy because I gave them deer.

MattG,
I know what your saying. I used to hunt PA in 93-99 with my Uncle and it was hard to see anything but does and scrub bucks. we had a mountain that was leased and we would have a great time up there. If i remember correct it was up by blue mountain. we'd go up the first week of the season. I would get so damned excited to be heading to deer camp. great memories. It seemed like simpler times then but scrubb bucks were on the menu. I didnt know any better back then. I was excited to see a buck let alone get a shot at one. Killed my first buck in 97 up there. a 7 pt thats still on my wall to this day right next to my big bucks. Just as proud of him as the others.

I shot a buck in PA during late muzzleloader season. A very old, broken buck that was 178 lbs. dressed.
I passed on numerous smaller bucks and a single 8-pointer during the NJ archery season in the hopes of trying to tag a trophy. I passed on another young 8-pointer in PA rifle season; and I also missed a real nice 8-pointer in PA muzzleloader due to a misfire before tagging out on the broken one.
My wife and kids don't eat venison, so 1 deer normally holds me over no problem until the following year. Unfortunately, this year the jerky I had made was out of this world and it is gone already. :(
When I was picking up my processed venison, the butcher told me he always has numerous people bring in multiple deer and tell him they only want 1 or 2 of them back. Why did they shoot them if they had no interest in eating them?
He also told me he had a bunch of deer brought in that were spoiled because they were left out in the warm temps. One club in my area (not mentioning any names) brought in 12 deer, and all but 4 were ruined. Most were spoiled and some still had urine bladders and other internal organs still in them. Apparently, this club has a rule that all bucks must remain hanging throughout the entire gun season, so they can take pictures and brag about the final tally. :(
These kinds of practices are shameful, wasteful, and just plain ridiculous.
I personally feel you should be prosecuted for wanton waste of game any time you kill something that you don't want or don't take the proper care to make sure it remains edible.

That's stupid. If it's warmer than the 30s, take a couple of pictures and get it processed that day. Sounds like they're shooting deer to stroke their egos. Almost like a......I shouldn't say it.....oh well.....a billfish tourny.

AMEN Scott on both the deer and billfish ego strokes! You and I obviously enjoy the taste of game/fish, and the respect that an animal deserves if you are going to kill it.

Yep. The old man taught me long ago - don't keep it if you're not going to eat it. And I really only hunt the animals I enjoy eating. Good thing I don't care for waterfowl. It's probably saved me lots of money in calls, dekes, boat and gear.
