I'm new to hunting in NJ. Is there any point in pheasant hunting on WMA's this late in the season? I see that they stocked 12/27 and the season is open until mid February.
I took my Lab last Friday and did not flush or see any birds in 3+ hours. The only sign of pheasants were the 5 or 6 pheasant wings my Lab retrieved that the fox had left behind. Am I wasting my time or should I keep trying? I'll probably go anyhow, as both the dog and I have a great time just getting out. But it sure would be more fun if we found a bird once in awhile.
Any thoughts??

aboslutely not, keep at it, there are plenty of leftover birds, plenty. especially if you have a good dog.

You can bump into a few leftovers out there on WMAs. I just go to a semi-wild preserve like Game Creek and pay a few bucks for a fun hunt with no hastles.

There are birds around. The ones that survive the predators "evolve" into wild birds over time and hence become tougher to find. They are out there though. Don't give up. Hunting is not always about the weight in your game bag.

like unami said you can go to a preserve and book a hunt. its loads of fun. or you can buy the birds and stock them in your local wma.
