Thought I'd share my project from last winter. Its the patchbox on my favorite gun, .54 T/C Hawken that I built from a kit. Last year I decided to work the brass patchbox in order to personalize it. It seemed like a good idea because it is an easily replaceable part if something went wrong:D

Its just a little design with my initials and an antler on the side. The dark background was achieved by chemically changing the color of the brass after the engraving was done. Best part is that all 3 kids have the same initials in case the gun stays around for a while:)

Now that looks sweet!

Great idea, and it definitely makes that flinter an heirloom for your kids to enjoy long after you are gone!

Thanks guys.

ACEarcher, it's the original T/C patchbox, that comes with a smooth finish. I just carved the relief in the brass with a Dremel and a lot of scratching with various steel points. Certainly not fancy engraving, but the homemade look fits the Hawken in my opinion. It was time consuming, but pretty easy, thats why I posted it, I figured it might help a few guys with cabin fever.

I like that look. Hmmm may try something like that. Really nice job though!
