Man he must be trapping the whole state! Ain't gonna be any reds left!
I have had a decent season so far, here is my latest catch a nice fat female coon double snared. It's funny I was setting a coyote live cage and heard all kind of commotion across the way and there she was caught in 2 snares... 25 lbs no damage at all...

phil has the reds just giving up when they see his toyota pull up.
i saw he posted big numbers a few weeks ago. he's on pace to break 1000 again. lancaster county can pump out red numbers. it's amazing that the reds can take that kind of harvest. and he's not the only one trapping the area. nightwish takes good numbers too, same area.
i'm happy with a few dozen.
phils got three years over 1100 i think.
he also puts up 90% himself.
also traps coon, coyote and a mink line.
but all he does is trap. he stops pouring concrete for the whole season.

How much do you think all that is worth? A good safe estimate? $$$???

Shoot I would say between $20K to 25K with 1100 reds... That is my guess

I was talking to Adam the other night and we were discussing the fact that my old man used to trap when he was younger. Question, how do you sell them? Where do you take them?

i think it was last year that phil was offered $16 across the board. no grading, no deductions, no highs, no lows. just a strait $16 each.
that is $17,600 for reds with a 1100 count.
Question, how do you sell them? Where do you take them?
skin,flesh, wash, dry, board them.
there are a few buyers around.

When they trap do they use leg hold traps or something else? Also do they use the meat for anything, seems like it would be good bear bait.

Leg hold traps are illegal in N.J.

Also do they use the meat for anything
there is always a market for cheap meat.
around me,
rats go to the muskrat dinner, whites
coon go to the blacks
k9's go to the asians.
sorry if thats a little blunt, but thats how it is.

UB I wasn't off by much, I was figuring $20 - $25 if the market is up max.. $17 is probably more realistic.

The old marsh rat is one tasty creature when prepared and cooked correctly. My grandmother's recipe is great. I will be seeing her in the next couple of days and will try to get it from her.

It probably will improve dramatically after getting rid of all those foxes.
