:rolleyes:hey guys i know there r coyotes out there but at least where im hunting zones 65,25,23, id b hardpressed to blame them on low deer numbers rather than over slaughter of the club orange in (25 ) anyway Ive been hunting these areas for going on 30n yrs now and have seen a total of 2 one on whitehall road at 8am believe it or not and the other in winslow at 1100pm i know there here but if there where numbers in the crisis category explain the carcasses of deer that still remain intact 2 weeks after the season of shotgun and also still gut piles laying around. if there were so many around i wouldnt think there would b much carcases still in woods,im talkind whole deer, not trying to start argument but im not seeing it,i spend an awful lot of time in the woods hunt more than most can because of back injury and scout all the time, the clubs i know of havent gotten many either 1 here and there :):)

Grtwht-

You are correct. Coyote's are opportunists. Meaning finding rd kill's, gutpiles, unrecovered deer, etc are staples of their diet. They have been known to take fawns and adult deer, but more often not. Next to bear they're our areas biggest preds. Many people seem to believe that if we hunt them hard or offer bounty on them then we'll get ride of them. Truth be told it isen't that easy. Coyotes like deer have biological defenses to pressure. Females will have larger litters, they tend to change dens very frequently to avoid detection. The bulk of the time a coyote will utilize a den is when rearing pups. Litters tend to be 4-7 pups, but studies have shown under pressure larger litters will become more frequent. Usually coyote harvests tend to be about 50-60% of the population. Most of the harvested coyotes being juvinille coyotes (80-85%), adult coyotes tend to be 15-20% of the harvest.

Ive hunted 25 for the last 15 years right in front of Albertsons Creek (Hammonton side) and have noticed a significant decrease in the last 5 years. Ive been out just about every day of muzzleloader and have seen 2 deer. I haven't seen any yotes but I did see a set of tracks last year.

I have been hunting Zone 25 for 9 years. Use to see 10 to 20 per day. I only hunted 6 days in 25 this year and saw two deer...one was a six point that I took during the rut, the morning I found my stand was stolen. I started hunting further north and back in PA. This will be my last year hunting this zone:thdown:. Like others I have been seening the coyote tracks on most outings but that's not what's putting the hurting on the deer, it's the 10+ years of unlimited doe tags:confused: I pay too much to sit in a tree and watch squirels all day.

There are pleny of coyotes around I have killed 7 this year and have seen more than 20 on state and private land .. Fort Dix is LOADED with them and so is Greenwood.. They are here . I have a property 5 miles from fort dix and we only hear them in the winter.. the breeding season .. this is when they are very vocal.. If you guys want to see coyote tracks pick a dirt rd off 72 you can see all the tracks you want.. They will move more at night for the next few weeks because of 6 day and small game hunters.. Trust me there are more here than what you think... we will see what the night season brings

the coyotes are here in 25 and 35. in better numbers then you think.
the two i snared were taken on a farm that is hunted everyday, start to finish by the farmer. he never saw a coyote on the farm. he lives there, works there and plays there, yet never saw one.
they have a large range. they may show here one day, then 10 days later show over here, then gone for a week, then back again.
they are the hardest animal we have to trap and shoot in this state.
once they set up in a area you will never get rid of them. out west they have had bountys, hunting, shooting from the air, poison, ect... they still have tons of them.
in 5 more years we won't have any reds left. this will be a coyote state.

These k-9's are going strong and have adapted to the area very well!
It's ashame that we will loose the reds eventually, but what can we do about it except take more yotes!
My area's I hunt and trap zones 43, 31, 30, 45 and 46 are loaded with yotes. All I can say is shoot them if you see them!

We had a pack running our area in 25 regularly last year, but this year nothing...until last week. Starting seeing tracks and last tues the howling started. While I hate the impact on other species, I do like hearing them, takes me back to my Colorado hunting days.

It's sad to say but the 'yotes are here to stay forever! We all should take every dog we see, but that doesn't happen too often 'cause they're so wary. They will eat meat everyday, be it deer or turkey.

I hunted the grids down Jackson Rd. in Willamstown Sat. afternoon and the coyote's are in large numbers back there , the old underground sewer system in those woods are a perfect home for them , you can see where they go in and out of the sewer drains .

ridgerunnerron-

You are absolutly right. Coyote are an animal that responsed very quickly to pressure. The more the pressure the more larger litters they'll have. Shooting them out is almost next to impossible. We just have to learn to live with them. Do they take out deer, yes, but not as many as you would think. They are oppurtunist. Most of the scat that is found with deer in it is due to rd kills, unrecovered deer, and gut piles.

Recently a coyote was recovered in Monroe Co. Pa by a trapper (last week I think). This coyote had a GPS collar on it. The trapper called the PGC and much to suprise that coyote came from NY!!!!!!! That coyote traveled over 150 miles on his own!!!! The GPS collars send a signal to a data base ever 6 hours showing the coyotes general location. The coyote was running a 40-50 mile area of NY when suddenly went off the grid. Here the coyote just cut directly south into Pa. The coyote was originally collared by a grad student in Onieta NY (spelling). This study just goes to show how they will disperse.

Hey guys, Im not from here so i dont know how the coyote numbers are... but i do know a coyote wont kill a deer unless it has to ... there is enough road kill out there to keep them full.... a fawn is more likley to get it from a coyote ... as for a full grown deer id have to see it to beleive it... i come from the north country same is true with wolves... DEER NUMBERS ARE DOWN BECAUSE OF LOSS OF HABITAT ..... same as every other game animal from the good old days....
