I talked to Slugger Rick today and he was telling me he spoke with a Wildlife Biologist that was doing a study on the Coyote population , and they were setting up webcams infront of coyote dens and in a three month span they recorded alittle over 40 fawn killed and taken back to the den . I think we have a problem here , maybe they should let us use leg hold traps again ?

Well SEMIAUTO certain people on here are worried about people shooting a few does and that there are not enough deer around. They better start worring about the COYOTES. I have heard a simular story from a friend of mine. There are lots of COYOTES around my neck of the woods. And since they have made a return the deer are disappering. Ive posted it on here before.

I'm with Jonny one shot,
Here in PA, if I see a Coyote and can make the shot, its a dead dog... Even in the spring with a bad coat! I'll feed him to the coons or skunks... They kick the Sh-t out of the grouse and I can't have that!!! Its bad for business!!!

Big, healthy, fully furred, alpha male coyotes, and their packs, are here to stay.
Mangy canines are a sign of the female using the same den site on consecutive years. Mange is a skin disease. The "mange mite" causes it. Shoot all mange infected canines on sight.
Also, shoot all coyotes on sight. This sounds harsh to non- hunters. Reality is that few hunters even see a coyote yet alone get a shot. This animal can disappear before the surprised hunter can even get a shot. No way can we achieve coyote conservation and control on the current system.
So what is the answer?
I dont know but here is my thought. Coyote tournaments are increasing in popularity. Like bass tounaments. The overall effect, if done right, is information.
It can only get better.

It is very hard to actually hunt them. We've been envolved in Mosquito Creek coyote torny for several years now. It's really more like a reason for all the guys to get together at camp for us. The top prize (goes by lbs) is usually around 9-10 grand. Even if you just get a coyote I think you get like $100 bucks. The people who do the best on those hunts use dogs to run down the coyotes. Yes, it is legal. Two years ago when driving home after the hunt we stopped at a truck stop. We actually ran into one of the biologist that inspect the coyotes for that torny. He was a professor from Shippensburg. They do get a lot of valuable data from coyotes for those hunts.

We had 2 chew outs this week back to back off of Dividing creek road! Not sure what went wrong but they were not there in the AM... Lot's of coons and some fox but no snared yotes! It's still early and we have a couple good months coming up as the winter is getting colder and less food around! The Natural Lands Trust is crawling with them right now, it's too bad we can't sneak in there!

One day on the way to work back in september I was spoting the fields and seen 3 across from newport school. That land used to be bear swamp but now belongs to natural lands trusts. I hunted dividing creek road just out of dividing creek around the sand hole last year and just after dark on my way out from my stand you could hear them raising he!! all over.

Shoot I grew up hunting Bear swamp! My dads best friend back then was Howard Nuttal who lived on Ackley Rd across from the fields at Shaws Mill WMA, I can remember 20 years ago hunting that swamp and hearing coyotes. I told people back then and they thought I was nuts. Well it's 20 years later and Im even more nuts... lol
Great hunting down that way, sure brings back my early hunting memories....

UB I am only running small lines for fox and yotes, and there are plenty of dogs to go around! If you want we should hook up some time and call. I usually have a couple guys that go with me, so we can have more than one shooter and more than one caller. Let me know what you think!

I'm on Ackley rd. by the Mill pond split and we had 3 packs in the back yard a few nights ago. They were running 4 deer back and forth from about 2:00a.m. to 3:30a.m. They had my buddys beagles going wild.

All of us should take advantage of every rare opportunity and kill every deer and turkey killin 'yote we see. But the prob is we don't see 'em often enuff. F&G doesn't seem too interested in worrying about this like us hunters do. Maybe that's because we're out in the woods and not sitting in an office.:fight:

usualy they are night pred. only in late winter they call in to distress calls thats when they are dend up having there litters easyer to kill in pa state game lands any wear near a farm or resadent.area seen people take milk hung dogs both coyotes and big feral dogs I'd shoot a ferral dog faster then a yote and I'll take either if I can but a ferral dog isen't that afraid of you and will come after you push come to shove they know what you are and are not afraid and I'm speaking from first had knowledge so make shore its a yote and not a ferral dog. wounded a yote is gone if it can a ferral dog may turn and stock you and bite the hell out of you if it can Remember a ferral dg usually has to be alote bigger then a yote to live in the same area or it will be come yote food100 lb shepperds or huskies are comin and awolf mix is a lot to handle when you don't expect it and sorry to say most hunters won't admitte that they had that much trouble Like one traking you to your hunting spot in the dark with the newer light that don't bother game they are game to so going in this time of year check behind you and if you hear some thing there its prob. aferral dog not ayote so be carful they may run at you or circle and growl just out of sitte to see what you do try to move away from them and you may have a problemsit and whatch for one and they probable will pass you by and that big dog shoot in millvill look like a ferral dog good shotting:bow:
