Had Ruddy22 down for a morning hunt and we had a blast! By 9am we had out limit of brant, with tons more looking to come in. We had our chances on plenty of buffies but only took a couple home, one nice drake. Also ruddy, bagged a red breasted merganser. Tons of shooting and perfect weather for this hunt. Total for the morning was 9.

Had an awsome time on the water, thanks again! Did your Dad laugh about the tripple? I'm glad Sunday mornings weather wasn't Saturdays, cause everything round us in gloucester county was frozen over. Got have ya over in the spring for a big gobbler hunt. If ya get anymore of those buffy drakes like the one we downed, save it and let me take a crack at mounting it for ya. I'm tanning an entire deer hide over the holiday for someone, maybe a bufflehead would make a nice winter project. Thanks again:thup:

Sounds like you guys had better luck then we did. I ended up with 1 canada, and 1 brant. Lots more people hunting around our spot yesterday then most Saturdays.

i hunted saturday killed a few birds not the best day not the worse it was blowing so hard when we got to the box we only put out half the stools then the wind died off, there was not many broadbills at all i think they may have left the area just a bunch of bufflehead and a few brant:)

Nice job, those buffies are a challenge! They are like tanks, you can hit them, but they will skip along the water and decoys then get back into flight and keep going like nothing ever happened!!

I shot a buff the other morning, and it did that. Skipped across the water then sat right up. I broke a wing so it could not fly. My brother sent his dog out but the dam bird kept diving and swimming until we lost it in some grass on the other side of the pond. We called the dog back and walked to the other side. Spent a while walking up and down the bank and the dog was swimming up and down the bank, but we never found it. I went back with my dog about 7 hours later at low tide and there it was swimming in circles right where we last saw it. I got a shot on it before it dove this time and my dog got to do his second retrieve ever. His first was on another buff earlier that day.

Thats awesome. They are incredible sometimes...I've seen them dive down and never come up. We always thought they go down, grab onto the bottom and somehow lock their jaw and die, then eventually float up hundreds of yards away??

It happened again today. Shot one, then put another shot on it and it dove and never came up. Then another came in and I watched as all three shots covered the entire bird and it just kept on going. Tuff little birds.

Sure are! Out of alll those pellets, one has to hit a vital or those tiny heads/necks...its not as easy as some think!!
