I'm getting ready to buy new hunting boots and looking for any recomendations.
Two questions:

1. Are boots with all gore-tex outside stay dry?
2. What are good products for waterproofing (ex. mink oil) if there is
leather involved?

Thanks

no such thing as a truly waterproof boot unless it is rubber and or rubber/neprene...

I have the lacrosse 1200 rubber boots of coarse they are water proof but heavy and bulky

My Danner Pronghorns are great and water proof with the Gore Tex

My Danner ??? Low cut short boot style with Gore Tex suck.Heavy Dew and my feet get soaked

Kinda like my Muck Boots all around waterproof and warm. But little foot support.

define waterproof I guess

stand in teh water over your ankles with those gore tex danners and I'll bet your feet eventually get wat

i have a pair of lacross rubber/leather ones w/gore tex that are great crossing shallow streams and such but I sure wouldn't stand in the water above my ankles with them on for more than 3 seconds...

muck boots are the sheet! but I wouldn't want them for hunting long hours

I tell you my Danner Pronghorns are water proof enough for me.
Dragged a deer out the other nite and the shortest way was thru 2 swamps and a creek.Never any deeper than 6 inches stayed dry as a bone.

My other "waterproof" Danners I would have been soaked. What gives both use Gore Tex and Both say waterproof.

Going off topic a bit
I think that the Cabala's DRY PLUS clothing is the worst stuff made for foul weather. You get soaked and then the clothing weighs a ton when wet.

DRY PLUS my arse. Maybe fog proof thats it

As to your topic
My choices would be for total waterproof

Muck Boots
Lacrosse Burly

For a you Might get wet Boot if you are wadding but an all around excellent waterproof enough for me boot without the rubbery Frankenstein look

Danner Pronghorn

The best boots I have ever used are the alpha burley knee high rubber boots from lacross. They are like wearing your favorite slippers. I have the uninsulated ones for eaely season and walking alot is a must and a pair of 1000 thinsulate for cold weather. Go to the sportsmen show in harrisburg and find the Amish shoe salesmen. Great deals!

I like the Lacrosse Burly , foam insulation air bob sole. Very comfortable, If it gets real cold out I just add toe warmers. Works for me anyway.

I've always hunted in rubber boots. Lacrosse or cabella's. I hear a lot of good posts on Muck boots. May be my next pair.

Danner makes great boots. Cabella's makes a similar looking / style boots that I love. The outfitter series have been working well for me for years. Best money I have ever spent on boots. No upkeep needed. They are holding up great even with all the abuse I put them through.

I have hunted three PA seasons with my Danner Pronghorns in rain and snow...still keeping my feet dry while giving you plenty of foot support for hunting in mountain terrain. In NJ where it is flat and I do less walking I use 1200 gram Lacrosse...can't get much drier than that.

I'll second the much boots, best boot to date that I've purchased. Was looking for a good winter boot and after trying irish setters, rockys and many different pack style boots. I purchased the muck boot arctic sport, and even w/ standard cotton socks my feet do not get cold and I do a lot of stand hunting. I had the boots w/in 3 days from order. Next fall I'll be purchasing a lighter pair for the warm weather.http://www.muckbootsonline.com/

I was at Cabelas today and bought a pair of Muck boots. Very comfortable and light. They were flying off the shelves !

I swear by LaCrosse Boots. That junk knock-off that dick's sells cant compare. You can get a high thinsulate with a pretty agressive yet supportive tread on the bottom. Some models are heavier than others. Depends how much you want to spend to get the tread/weight combo you want.

AlphaBurly's 18" for swamp water, Mucks for warmth, AlphaBurlys lightweights for tracking.

I've got Muck Wetlands and wouldn't trade them for anything.
