Does it seem like there are less stocking dates this year??? It seems like it. The stamp prolly still costs 40 bucks though:confused: It gets worse every year:(

I thought they have been releasing more birds but I could be wrong. I think last year was like 60,000 birds. I got my limit almost everytime out.

40bucks is bad? That is the tip at most pheasent farms.

I dont hunt game farms........... look at the stocking dates in the new wildlife digest, I may be wrong, but it seems there are less dates...I guess all of those 60,000 birds are going to WMA's up north... there is no way they are releasing that many birds on any of the southern Wma's....I hunt from greenwood forest, down to east point and heislerville and everywhere in between

And forty bucks isnt so bad... I just dont think they are really putting out as many birds as they say... I've been hunting these areas for years with a couple good buddies and a great dog, and we dont get as many as you would think for 60,000 birds:rolleyes:

some of the WMA's lost stocking days after deer season like Howardsville. I don't mind the $40 and would pay more for more days and keep out some of the trash that shows up.

INTERESTING FACTS (interesting to me at least)
NJ releases about 50,000 Pheasants and 10,000 quail. Pa releases about 100,000 pheasants.
NJ is approx 8,722 sq. miles, PA is 46,059 sq. miles. This means there are 6.8 birds per/sq.mile released in Jersey to 2.1 birds per/sq.mile released in PA.
Now im on the edge of the PA / NJ boarder....lets say I can drive all over pa for pheasant hunting but I have to stay in an area equal to the size of NJ.....8722 sq. miles x 2.1 birds/sq. mile (pa bird ratio) = 18,316.2 birds. I will have access (in general) to 18,000 birds in PA verses 60,000 in NJ..... I will gladly pay $40 bucks.
Pa releases birds 1x for Junior Hunter before season opener & 3x for in-season hunting. There are some residual leftovers but a week of fox and Jr hunters decimate the first release......
NJ releases 15x in-season hunting.
Pa does not have a $40 stamp HOWEVER, IMO NJ has a far superior Pheasant/Quail program to Pa.....I have yet in 2 years ever come home empty handed from an upland trip to NJ and I hunt at least once a week in NJ (im counting waterfowl too though :D)

I dont know.... maybe smaller areas and more people equal less birds for me.... Just seems like there is not enough birds... we get to the areas right around daybreak, watch groups of 10-15 people walk out each loaded up with birds and we will work all day to only find a bird or two if we are lucky...Bear, my lab finds everyone elses dead birds that they cant find and leave to rot, but is lucky to see any live action... I feel bad for the hound cuz thats what he loves and lives to do.... I like to hunt Greenwood and Medford. Medford is really crowded. And greenwood is friggin huge. We always do best in the east point, heiselerville areas down south

I wouldnt name the places you go to because of the cyber scouts that only come to the forums to see where action is....
Med is horrible horrible horrible....you will get your head shot off. I had a stranger walk up to my dog on point before I could get to him (I dont run with a loaded firearm) put the bird up and shoot it....took everything in me not to kick that guys azz. Ive shot a bird in the woods next to a field that flutterd down about 2 feet out into the feild and as I came out of the woods some guy was putting my bird in his bag..then he proceeds to tell me he shot it, I was like there was only one shot fired in hte last 15 mins and it was my gun.....I wont go there again, not worth the possibility of geting shot or worse........
Heres my opinion....the trick is to hunt during the week...you know when they stock, so you know what day in the week to hunt on. Pheasants come out early in the AM to feed and wash their gullet.....during the day they are deep deep deep in the thickets.....if ya go in the afternoon, on a weekday...there is way less pressure and you will pick birds up that come out to feed before dusk.....you also pick up cripples which does suck to not shoot something flying, but it is ethical to not let the wounded die useless......you can apply my therory to any of areas you mention....

I hear ya...let em' go to medford, I've had the same experiences, friggin overcrowded and @ssholes...I almost laid a guy out cuz he shot over my dog and I thought he hit him  no respect at that place.... let em' go to greenwood, the place is friggin huge, if you can find birds in that piece, you must have a bunch of dogs, and or know where they put em out

I hunt upland three times a week in season and average 20 to 30 birds a year all on wma's . I used to see more when i was a kid but times have changed. I think allot has to do with your dog and shooting abality. I will go in a field with my dog after others have went through and put up birds. My major complaint is they dont spread them out enough . Most birds go in the main fields where it is crazy. They should put some in the woods too.

I have raised pheasants in the past when grain was half what it is now and it cost me nearly $15.00 a bird. I normally harvest between 25-35 birds during the season on an overcroweded game preserve. Dont get me wrong, I think it is a disgrace that I need an accountant to help me purchase the twenty other various permits and licenses that cost me over $250 as a resident in this state. This state has made the seasons and bag limits so confusing its no wonder we have lost 50% of the hunters from 10 to 20 years ago. Just look at the license purchases stats on their website....
