with your tax dollars are by law are open to hunting. Look up the by laws for green acres and under thier own definifitions under recreational use hunting is listed. I live near Mt Laurel and they have over 300 acres posted no trespassing. All this land was purchased with our tax dollars. down by raccoon creek wma on the sign they put up stating for recreational use there is a no tresspassing sign on the sign the state put up under jon corizines name. What a great state> All we are doing with this program is making tax free estates for the origianal owner. Making a taxpayer safari land for the townships employees, (my Opinion)

Google the NJ DEP I Map system and log on. Zoom in to the area (salem) a couple of times and on the left tool bar you will see a box for open space. Click it and refresh map. The WMA's will show up in green. Keep zooming in and you will see the borders of the public land. Click road atals on left tool bar and refresh the map and all the road names will appear. Refer to NJ fish and game WMA section and you can bring a map of the areas you are interested in. The NJ F&G maps will show you any parking areas and safety zones. You can use the I-Map to measure distances to make sure you are of legal distance. Abbotts Meadow, Mad Horse Creek and Gum Tree are a few. They also added alot to the Thundergut WMA, they have big open fields that look like cow pastures that are now open. Research these two maps and you can print out info and go scout. Hope this helps. Keep checking for NJ add ons, I missed an area in Salem River that was added and a nice ten pt was shot there. Also, the NJ Fish and Game Maps add areas that NJ DEP I-Map does not. Make sure you comparethe two periodically, you can find small, productive areas before the crowd does.

bluewater, I do the same. You can also click on the ariel photo option when your zoomed in, which really helps put landmarks on the boundries. Then, bring up a new window with Live search maps http://maps.live.com/ and compare the area with the birdseye view if available, its like scouting from a helicopter.

Just a word of caution on the i maps info....the green shaded areas are state open land, not just WMAs. Not all green areas are open to hunting;)

Thanks for the info about open space. I know not all is huntable but it is a nice feature if you know it's a WMA> Gotta love modern technology. I measured some areas of Salem River and wrote down the measurements. I went out and paced off the areas and the Catalano posted signs were right on the money with one giant step equal to one yard. To bad they kill all the nice deer inside the posters. Ha Ha
