I got a banded brant Thursday afternoon. Filled the report out online. He was banded in Nunavut on 7-25-01. Wonder how many thousands of miles that bird has flown in the last seven years.

i shot one about 15 years ago in sea isle
it was banded in barnagate bay, 18 years earlier.
there was hardly any numbers left. they used acid to see were the aluminum was denser, behind the stamping. thats how they got all the numbers.
young, old, they all taste like st*t.:)

That is a really awsome site. Thanks for sharing. I've got 2 bands. Both from Canada Geese (I only goose hunt). The first band believe it or not was my first bird. The bird was banded in Seaville, NJ and taken in Bedminster, Pa. The second was banded in Ottawa Canada and taken in Doylestown, Pa USA. I know of more guys that duck hunt and they get more bands. Some guys I know get a band a year or 2-3 every other year. Has anybody every heard of other bands being found on geese or ducks other than USGS bands in our area S NJ or SE PA? USGS bands are the plain jane aluminum bands with call 1800 yadda yadda band or write sumthin sumthin MD.

I thought 7 years was a long time to be banded. 18 years is pretty amazing. They are not the best tasting birds out there, but they can be pretty fun to hunt. My brother and I have been hunting them out of layout blinds in the meadows this year. Poor mans goose hunting. I have been experimenting with cooking them different ways and they are not too bad if you put a little extra effort into preparing them.

i stopped duck hunting about 10 years ago.
but my dad still hunts birds every weekend and days during the week, the whole season. he stopped shooting them years ago.
they are easy to drop. one shot and you dropped a limit, but to kill them you'll shoot a bunch more shots at them.

I know. I could not believe it when the second goose had a band too. My brother got his first goose in the same spot last year and it was also banded. They are just resident birds but for some reason they change their flight path this time of year and we start to get them flying over a spot we duck hunt. I tried to get them in the Sept. season but they were not flying that way. I'm going out tomorrow morning to see if I can get them again.
