all the city cops think this is thier private spot they put ya in the car and then find out that you can shoot deer in philly with abow, they all think they really did something special till the commish shows up checks ya out and tells them no more harrasing hunters .... leave us alone we have a licesnse and are legal.

I think it is the officer's job to know the fish and game laws. Officers where I work at least have a general idea of the game laws, and if they don't they ask before grabbing a hunter up. Its not that hard to familiarize yourself with some of the general laws. At least the ones that they may have to deal with. I am not trying to talk the officers that handled your incident down but I do believe that if they are going to deal with hunters they should be familiar with the laws.

only been in a cop car 2 times.. but man it sucks.. they take you out of the woods during good hunting times :)

they tell you you can't tresspass and let the little kid walking around there walk threw the woods.. i hunted a spot well from any area any kid would want to go to.. and i had a guy with bios looking at me come screaming at me.. i was about 400 yards from the road.. he had the cops come out.. they put me in the back of the car.. with my knife of course on my side.. said i can be arrested for discharging a fire arm in the city.. i said i never discharged it yet :) i also went and said that the man who came to e while i was hunting broke a law.. but that was ok because he was a cop and hsi kids play in these woods.. i then asked why dos he let his kids tresspass.. i was then let go

I'm on the job and just like Jneely wrote, it is their responsibility to make themselves aware and know the game laws before apprehending someone. See there is this thing called a 1983 case, which is the violation of someone civil rights. Thus if our not doing something illegal and you get taken into custody, other than in an exigent circumstances, you can and should get your a-s sued. Next time you get apprehended for hunting, where you legally can be, I suggest you contact a good Phila attorney and sue the city. Next time that uneducated individual thinks about putting hands on someone that they should not, they'll think twice. I was sued once for this by a criminal and have become intimate with the process. We have a right to be in the woods and we can not be harassed. An individual can get arrested for harassing a hunter. Until this folks are made aware of this, they'll keep doing it. If they don't know the law, they should call the warden, before they put the habeus grabous on someone. And that's all I got to say about that.

I am also on the job and I know that many municipalities here in New Jersey do have ordinances against discharging a firearm in city limits. I dont know what Philadelphia has on the books but I think they should worry about the people in that city that are hunting other people. Lets face it, there are good cops and bad ones and in a city with tens of thousands of cops you are bound to have a few thousand that are lucky to not be in prison themselves. So do as the last guy said...Open a lawsuit against the city if you are arrested unlawfully...and arrested does not mean you have to be booked...handcuffs or back of a police car is enough if they dont have a reason to do it. But keep in mind that people get nervous when they see anyone walking around with a gun so you cant blame them for calling.
Be safe everyone and good hunting.
