No , just keep it oiled like a good knife. I use a dab of KY right after I pull it out of the dishwasher in between kills :D

I do use one & like it, although I don't quite follow their directions & tie off the tube. Basically I rim the donut with my knife, plunge the buttout in & pull out, then cut the tube. When I remove the guts from the inside, the tag end almost always goes out that end and I have a nice clean canal, no pelvis splitting required.

While your field dressing cut inside the pelvis, pinching off the piss sack and remove. Turn around and use the tool and pull it all out. You may have to cut a little on the out side. Beats trying to hold slimy intestine while your "rimming" it with you sharp knife!!

Only shot one bear in my life. That was 12 years ago. I might pick up a butt-out and I would try it on a bear if I got one this year.

Tried mine this morning, works like it says :)

I pulled a bit too much intestine out and it broke, which was ok because I than tied it off.

One of the better $10 spots I've spent.

One of the best "make your life easier" inventions ever.I had one since it was the deererear or whatever , liked it so much i had to have the new orange color one too. So now i have a green one and an orange one. Different colors for different occasions.

They do work great, but a properly chosen stick with a few nubs will do the same thing if you don't want to carry the real thing! Ed.

Hey, if you want results, you have to use drastic measures sometimes. Oh, and sending the video back to the homeland helps crush their morale. ;)
