saw deer and turkeys all morning. couldn't nap or read my trapper/predator caller magazine.
if it's raining tomorrow i'm headed back in there.
if not i've got another swamp to guard.
heard very little shooting.
biologist at the check station said it was very slow today.

Why would that buck be considered a management buck?

bp50 i would say hes a management buck because of his "bad genes".
which means because he has the tendency to grow bad antlers. by taking him out of the herd he cant breed any more does. it like the old saying goes "ceartain people shouldnt be allowed to have kids"

Was wondering how old that buck is? Or Looks. Bad genes because of broken antler?

The antler doesnot look broken off to me from the pic, would say bad genes, he should have grown semitrical (sp) or close to it on both sides. But could have broken that side off early last year, hard to say with out seeing what he was in past years.

Hey ub1243 did you drop that deer off at A&M meats because I saw a deer just like that there. If it was I would say bad genes because it was a pretty big deer to have a rack like that. Congrats on some great venison for the freezer.

thats the third strange buck i took off the property this year. the other two were, hopefully before they got to breed. this guy was stinkin, tarsals real dark, but when does were around he near even tried to get close to them.
if he did breed, at least the place doesn't have to carry him all winter. now there's more food for the bred does and mature bucks.
the antler wasn't broke. it was that way right from velvet. i saw him before. but with only one buck tag per archery season, i wait till the end to burn a tag. and i took another managment buck with the permit tag.
my deer is still hanging in the back yard. it went 130lbs and the biologist aged him at 1 1/2 years old, he was at the check station at rt40 and rt553 today.

taking out bucks that won't amount to much is better for the whole herd.

Hey ub1243, how long did that stand take for you to build. That's one awsome houch you got there:thup:

i built it in they yard, on the picnic table.
the whole thing was made so it can be put together from the inside.,
then me and keppy and another buddy went out and set the 2x8's and 6's. fastened the floor down, then pulled up piece by piece with rope. i screwed everything together from inside.
the hardest part was carring the ladder through the swamp.
