Anyone use Hornady Low Drag Sabots 300 Grain? I am shooting with a Reminton Genesis and 2 Triple 7 pellets (100 grains). Is this bullet to heavy in anyones opinion? Gun was sighted at 50 yards.

I have this self doubt about this set up from last year's early muzzleloading season. I took a shot at a doe at 30 yards with no obstructions and after the smokes cleared I could not find blood. The same small group came back around to my disbelief about 30 minutes later. I am ready to go and shoot again. Same spot same trail same distance. I again see no blood and follow the path they took and find blood about 200 yards away. Not a lot, I find a little more then the trail stops. I searched for hours, nothing. Even went to get my father in law and buddies, nothing. Now I could just be a bad shot but is there a chance this load was to heavy for the amount of powder I was using?

I went back to the house swabbed the barrel took a couple of shots at a target and I am right with in the margin of error in the bullseye.

Doe fever maybe?

Have you tried any other type of bullets to see if your gun just does not like the hornady's. With a 300 grain bullet two pellets should be ok at the distance you were shooting . The best bullet my Remington 700M/L shoots is a 385 buffalo bullet .I have used two pellets with that bullet and did ok out to 100 yards. but it shot much better with three pellets. Have you tried three pellets ?Most guns shoot two better .but every now and then you find one that likes three.

Pagrizz,
I have also used T/C Shockwaves in the beginning but they where expensive. I have gone through 50 of the Hornady's I don't dislike them when at the range. They group nice and I can hit the target. I was more concerned about the amount of force on a deer. At the distance I was shooting I would have figured I would have knocked her over right there. I most have just nicked her and missed badly from where I was aiming at the vitals. Confidence in what your shooting is important.

I shot the ML once before leaving for Hunting camp at 100 yards with this load set up and hit to the right of the bull with a cold gun and never having sighted at that distance.

I just see most guys comment on using Bullets in the 250 grain area, not 300 Grains.

It sounds like maybe it could of been doe fever. I've been there. When I stop getting excited I'll stop hunting.I do not think the 300 is to big. If your gun shoots the 300 ok I would not change.

Hornady makes the shockwave Bullet for TC.........same bullet as their non bonded bullet....No complaints with the hornady bullet here..works well...
